Gustaf Carlson (soccer player)

Gustaf Johannes Carlson (born July 22, 1894 in Stockholm ; † August 12, 1942 there ) was a Swedish football player . After the end of his career he worked as an official.

Career

Carlson played for the Stockholm club Mariebergs IK . On October 24, 1915 he made his debut on the occasion of the 5-2 success over the Norwegian national team in the jersey of the Swedish national team . In the following years he was an irregular member of the national team. After he was not considered for the Olympic Games in 1920 and then came to an international match in 1921, he was again part of the national selection at the Olympic Games in 1924 . In the opening game, an 8-1 win over Belgiumhe was not on the field, but in the following games he was part of the starting lineup and reached the semi-finals with the team. In the 2-0 defeat against Switzerland, as well as in the 1-1 draw after extra time against the Dutch team, he was involved in the game for third place and was temporarily in the captain's armband during the tournament . In the subsequent replay, in which the bronze medal was won with a 3-1 victory by goals from two-time goalscorers Sven Rydell and Evert Lundquist , he did not take part. One week after the end of the tournament, he played for the last time in the national jersey in a 3-2 win over Denmark in his 14th international match.

Awarded Stor Grabb in 1926 , he was a member of the selection committee of the Swedish national team from 1934. In 1938 he rose to its head and was responsible for the selection of players for the 1938 World Cup , in which the team around players like Åke Andersson , Tore Keller , Gustav Wetterström and Erik Persson reached the semi-finals and ultimately came fourth in the finals. He remained in this office until his death in 1942.
