  • 1934: The US bank robber John Dillinger , known as "Public Enemy No. 1" , is shot by police officers while leaving a cinema.
  • 2004: The Tagwerk campaign organized the “Your Day for Africa” campaign in Brandenburg for the first time . The association calls on schoolchildren to get involved with their peers in Africa. In Brandenburg, 12,500 young people from 122 schools responded to the call.
  • 2016: Several people are shot dead in an attack in the Munich Olympic shopping center .

  • 1342: During the Magdalen floods, large parts of Central Europe are inundated by the rivers Rhine, Main, Danube, Moselle, Moldau, Elbe, Weser, Werra and Unstrut. It is probably the worst flood of the 2nd millennium.

  • 1829: The Cabardian shepherd and porter Killar Kashirow succeeds in the first ascent of the eastern summit of Elbrus , the highest mountain in the Caucasus .
  • 1894: The first race in the car racing will take place from Paris to Rouen instead. 17 of the 21 vehicles that started reach the finish line. The fastest, Albert de Dion , is downgraded to second place. The reliability drive is the first official car race in sports history.

  • 2005: The Russian Jelena Gadschijewna Issinbajewa is the first woman to overcome a height of five meters in a pole vault .
