Heinrich Proch

Heinrich Proch (born July 22, 1809 in Vienna , † December 18, 1878 in Vienna) was an Austrian composer .

Life

Proch studied in Vienna law and trained as a violinist . From 1834 to 1867 he was a member of the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle . In addition, he was Kapellmeister of the Theater in der Josefstadt from 1837 to 1840 and then for thirty years first Kapellmeister of the Theater am Kärntnertor , which later became the Court Opera . He also worked as a singing teacher.

Proch composed an opera ( ring and mask ), three operettas , drama music, orchestral pieces and chamber music works as well as over two hundred songs . In addition, he also appeared as a translator of Italian operas (e.g. Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore and Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale ). His daughter Louise Proch became known as a singer and actress.

Appreciation

In 1899, Prochstraße in Vienna- Penzing (14th district) was named after him.

Smaller vocal works

Proch also left behind various solo numbers. There is a virtuoso recording of his "Theme and Variations" (op. 164) for coloratura soprano with Ingeborg Hallstein and the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra under Franz Marszalek .
