Ingeborg Hallstein (born May 23, 1936 in Munich ) is a German opera singer ( coloratura soprano ).

Life

Ingeborg Hallstein was born in Munich in 1936 as the daughter of the soprano and vocal teacher Elisabeth Hallstein. At the age of 16, while still at school, she began to study singing with her mother.

In 1957 Hallstein, who was only 21 years old, received her first engagement at the Stadttheater Passau , where she made her debut as Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème . In 1958 she got an engagement at the Theater Basel , but in 1959 Willy Duvoisin brought her to the Munich Gärtnerplatztheater as a coloratura soprano .

In August 1960 Ingeborg Hallstein made her debut as Rosina in Mozart's La finta semplice at the Salzburg Festival , to which she has repeatedly returned over the course of her career. In 1966 she took part in the world premiere of the opera Die Bassariden by Hans Werner Henze . From here she was also engaged by the then artistic director Rudolf Hartmann at the Bavarian State Opera , of which she was a permanent member of the ensemble from 1961 to 1973.

Opera parts sung by her on the stage were subsequently a. Die Konstanze ( The Abduction from the Seraglio ), Gilda ( Rigoletto ), Violetta ( La traviata ), Sophie ( Der Rosenkavalier ), Susanna ( Le nozze di Figaro ), Zerbinetta ( Ariadne on Naxos ), Aminta ( The silent woman ), Olympia ( Les Contes d'Hoffmann ), Ninetta ( The love of the three oranges ), Fiorilla ( Il turco in Italia ), Isabella ( L'Italiana in Algeri ), Marzelline ( Fidelio ), Despina ( Così fan tutte ) and the Adele ( The bat ).

She gave guest appearances at all major opera houses in the world. She sang u. a. at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Hamburgische , the Stuttgarter and the Wiener Staatsoper , at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, at the Royal Opera House in London under Otto Klemperer , and designed under Herbert von Karajan in 1962 at the Theater an der On the occasion of its reopening, Vienna has one of her parade roles - the Queen of the Night in Mozart's Magic Flute .

With her voice as clear as a bell, reaching into the highest heights, she is one of the most important coloratura sopranos of the second half of the 20th century. In addition to opera and operetta , the art song was another artistic focus of Ingeborg Hallstein, which she pursued in numerous recitals at home and abroad.

An exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon ( Polydor ) resulted in the recording of numerous operas, operettas, musicals and songs. In addition to her opera and concert activities, she took part in numerous television productions of operettas and operas and also appeared in major television entertainment shows ( Peter Alexander Show , Dalli Dalli , guest star at Klimbim , and many more).

In 1979 Ingeborg Hallstein was appointed professor for singing at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg . Due to her increasing educational work, she then slowly withdrew from the stage. Until 2006 she worked in Würzburg , today (as of 2009) she only gives private lessons, holds masterclasses in Germany and abroad and is a sought-after juror at singing competitions.

For their services, u. a. Hallstein, who is also a Bavarian Chamber singer , received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1976, the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1996 and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1999 . The German Johann Strauss Society honored her commitment to the music of Johann Strauss in January 2007 with an honorary patronage.
