Hanspeter Gass

Hanspeter Gass (born August 12, 1955 in Basel ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and was a member of the government of the canton of Basel-Stadt from 2006 to 2013 . He was the head of the Justice and Security Department.

Life

Gass completed an apprenticeship as a freight forwarder and then worked for an international transport company. From 1980 until he took office as a member of the government in 2006, he was Deputy Administrative Director of the Basel Theater . From 1986 he was also managing director of the pension foundation of the Basel theater cooperative. Alongside his job, he obtained the following training:

  • 1982 Higher business diploma
  • 1990 Swiss federal certificate as administrative specialist for employee benefits
  • 1992 Swiss federal certificate as a social insurance specialist
  • 1994 Federal diploma as social security expert

Gass was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt from 2001 to 2006 . In 2006 he only ran the second ballot to replace Jörg Schild , who had resigned , after the previous FDP candidate Saskia Frei had withdrawn because she was below the absolute majority in the first ballot on February 12, 2006. Gass was elected on March 19, 2006 with just under 63 percent of the vote. In the general election of September 14, 2008, Gass remained below the absolute majority. However, as all other opposing candidates subsequently withdrew, Gass was re-elected in a silent election. He did not run for the government council election in October 2012. His successor in the government council was Baschi Dürr .
