Jörg Schild (born March 31, 1946 in Basel ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and was a member of the government of the canton of Basel-Stadt from 1992 to 2006 . He is often called "Jögge" by the people of Basel.

Life

Shield visited in Basel and Liestal schools before studying the 1975 jurisprudence at the University of Basel graduated. From 1976 to 1979 he worked as an intern and clerk at various offices. From 1979 to 1989 he worked as a public prosecutor in Basel, from 1982 as head of the narcotics department. From 1989 until his election as a member of the government (1992) he was head of the central services of the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Bern. Jörg Schild was considered a hardliner .

On May 15, 1992, Schild became a member of the government and head of the Department of Justice. Exactly two years later he switched to the Police and Military Department (PMD). He did not follow his call as a hardliner; he was more of a compromise-ready and popular politician. Schild became known for his drug policy, which received great attention beyond the canton's borders. In 1994 and 1995, Schild was also President of the Federal Council's Expert Commission for the revision of the Narcotics Act. From 1998 to 2004 he was President of the Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors and from 2000 to 2005 President of the Sport-Toto Society . In 1995 and 2004 Schild was President of the Cantonal Government.

His speeches when he was discharged from military service , reserved for him as head of the cantonal military authorities, were also legendary . The military service dismissal takes place every year in December and is often referred to as the "green carnival". In a hand-made speech , Schild targeted the events and especially his political opponents.

In November 2005, Schild was elected President of the Swiss Olympic Association . Schild then announced his resignation from the Basel government on March 31, 2006. He said you should stop while there is still one or the other person who thinks it's a shame. His successor in the government council was Hanspeter Gass .

At a young age, Schild was an active handball player and a member of the national team, he has also been an active carnival enthusiast and a member of the Wettstai clique, which he also presided over for 10 years.
