Hardliners

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term hardliner describes (e.g. in politics ) people who, against all odds (“at any price”), try to enforce their policy, which is often geared towards a single goal, and who reject any compromise . It is usually associated with the fact that they have few inhibitions when it comes to the use of force : they often uncompromisingly take a “hard line”.

Conceptual environment

They are often (Engl. With the "hawks" hawks ) equated. The parody or the derision of hawks (hawks), who verbally and emphatically plead for military options and "tough action" in general, but have little or no military experience (especially not on battlefields), is chickenhawks , literally "chicken hawks" or occasionally “goshawk” (also translated as “slacker falcon”).

Moderate or even pacifist set politicians (Engl. As "doves" doves ) designated, which in turn one of the "hawks" synonym for procrastinators and procrastinators, if not (Engl. Even for cowards and weaklings cowards and weenies is).

Both keywords have their origins in heraldry and emblematics : the dove of peace with the olive branch is as widespread as a symbol in these fields as the falcon or the eagle, which stand for power, strength, aggressiveness and - in the case of the eagle - domination .

Differentiation of terms

In the political field, Falken is also the name for children's and youth organizations from the socialist or social democratic parties, such as B. the Socialist Youth of Germany - " The Falcons " as an independent front organization of the German SPD . In other countries, too, the term - translated into the national language - is used in this way, for example in the Czech Republic , where there is still a youth organization called Sokol (Falke).
