Rudolf Hartmann (* 11. October 1900 in Ingolstadt , † 26. August 1988 in Munich ) was a German opera director and - intendant .

Life

Rudolf Hartmann, son of the director of a high school in Ingolstadt, devoted himself to the High School studying musicology at the Munich Academy of Music and at the local university , he with the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed. After completing a set design school, Hartmann made his debut as an opera singer at the Stadttheater in Bamberg , in 1928 he moved to Nuremberg as director of theater , and in 1934 to the Berlin State Opera , where he began working with Clemens Krauss , who brought him to the Munich State Opera in 1937 as an opera director, a role that he perceived until 1944. After the Second World War he was appointed opera director at the Nuremberg Opera House , and in 1952 he took over the management of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, which he held until 1967.

Rudolf Hartmann staged world premieres of important operas by Richard Strauss ( Peace Day 1938 in Munich; Capriccio 1942 in Munich; Die Liebe der Danae 1952 in Salzburg), Carl Orff ( Der Mond 1939 in Munich) and Paul Hindemith ( Die Harmonie der Welt 1957 in Munich) , as well as operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Wagner .

He directed Mozart's opera Die Hochzeit des Figaro , which was staged on the occasion of the opening of the Schweinfurt theater on December 1, 1966.

Hartmann was awarded the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art in 1984.
