Karl Zeiss
Karl Zeiss (born September 13, 1871 in Meiningen , † February 13, 1924 in Munich ) was a German dramaturge and theater director .
From 1893 Karl Zeiss studied theater and German at the University of Leipzig . In 1896 he completed his studies with a doctorate . He then took on a position at the Schauspielhaus in Dresden , becoming its general director in 1904. Zeiss gained recognition as the editor and editor of classic theater plays , but also staged many plays by contemporary authors.
In 1917 he was appointed general director of the municipal theaters in Frankfurt am Main . He brought together the theater and opera divisions, which had been separate since 1900 . His performances of expressionist pieces by Fritz von Unruh , Carl Sternheim and Paul Kornfeld attracted public attention, as did the cycle of Goethean dramas he staged .
In 1920 he was offered a position at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich and left Frankfurt.
