Klimbim is the title of one of the first German comedy - TV shows . The title is derived from the colloquial expression for useless accessories or fuss. In the style of a number revue , skits, one-player films and guest appearances by nationally and internationally known stars as well as episodes from the absurd life of the Klimbim family were shown on stage.
The idea for the series came from Hans Joachim Hüttenrauch and Michael Hausthar , who also directed. The episodes were realized in the Westdeutscher Rundfunk studios as a co-production with the CBM company. From 1973 to 1979 five seasons, each with six episodes, were broadcast in prime time on Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m. on ARD and ORF . The series was considered very successful.
concept
The basic concept of Klimbim was based on the American format Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In . Some elements were adopted, such as the wall with many small windows from which jokes were told. Other elements went beyond the original concept. The system was supplemented as a number review with elements of a sitcom . In each episode several episodes from the absurd life of the Klimbim family were shown. The troupe's regular actors played the opposite of what was imagined as an ideal family at the time - a war-mad grandfather, the utterly irresponsible mother Jolante, who only thinks about her own pleasure, a work-shy playboy as her lover and the indomitable daughter Gaby, who keeps a scorpion named Charly as a pet. A running gag was the grandfather who complained about a hard breakfast egg.
The skits often had a thematic reference not only within one program, sometimes two different sketch series overlapped in one program. In terms of film technology, too, Pflegehar Klimbim developed independence. Stylistically, many of the films were modeled on silent films in terms of music, color, editing and agogics , and numerous costumes imitated the fashion of the 1920s. Early sat Pfleghar which at that time still little customary blue screen technique one to show actors recorded separately backgrounds.
The humor moved between slapstick, absurdity and disreputable behavior and was often presented in a frivolous and provocative way. At a time when the media landscape was perceived as rather prudish, provocation through strong sexualization was part of the basic concept from the start. This included erotic allusions, provocative clothing of the actresses and openly shown nudity as well as the selection of the regular actors, who had previously mostly made money with erotic films. It was precisely this anti-prudish orientation that not only led to a great success with the public, but also to an award by the Adolf Grimme Prize jury, which at the time was considered to be rather conservative .
The musical trademark of Klimbim became the signature song composed by Heinz Kiessling, Klimbim is our life . The nonsense song ends after the verse "and is it not true" with the words Ingrid Steeger breathed "then I'll make a slit in my dress and find it wonderful", taken from a hit by Evelyn Künneke from 1961 originate: "I'll make a slit in my dress". After 30 episodes, the series ended on March 22, 1979.
