Silvio Francesco (born July 13, 1927 in Paris , † August 20, 2000 in Lugano ; actually: Silvio Francesco Valente) was an Italian entertainer who had some success as a pop singer in Germany.

Career

He was born into a family of artists. Mother Maria Valente was an internationally celebrated music clown, father Giuseppe a well-known accordion virtuoso . It was the world of circus and variety that shaped Silvio and his three other siblings professionally. He learned various instruments early on. His younger sister is the world star Caterina Valente , with whom he sang several duets, often under pseudonyms such as Club Manhattan , Club Honolulu , Club Argentina , Club Indonesia or Club Italia .

When Caterina moved from Polydor to Decca in 1959 , Margot Eskens temporarily became Silvio's singing partner. In 1960, Valente also brought her brother in at Decca, where they produced several cover versions such as Peppermint Twist , Quando quando (1962) and Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Honolulu Beach Bikini (1960). In 1963 a recording with Francesco made it into the charts for the last time, and his career as a pop singer was effectively over.

Silvio Francesco, who chose his two first names as artist names in favor of Caterina, was also the musical director of his sister's worldwide tours. He also worked in hit films, in which Caterina Valente partly played the leading role.

The artist last lived in Lugano , where he ran a small hotel.

Silvio Francesco died on August 20, 2000 at the age of 73. His grave lies in the urn grove of the Italian exclave Campione d'Italia on Lake Lugano . The artist was married and had two children.
