Grethe Weiser , Rudolf Platte and Ruth Stephan are cast in leading roles .

action

The penniless composer Paul Heiden has already sent the famous singer and dancer Marina Rosario his new revue twice, but the envelope was always returned unopened. When the third attempt also fails, Paul borrows money from his friend Rudi and seeks Marina in Spain . He is not even allowed to see her and later throws his grades down a slope in frustration. He falls badly when trying to get the leaves back.

When he woke up from the swoon, he found himself in the royal palace of Montania, after all, he was killed for the missing King Otto III. who has been on an excavation tour in Egypt for six months . Paul uses the chance and lets Marina come to Montania with her troupe to give a guest performance. Rudi is also brought to court. Rehearsals begin and Paul and Marina slowly get closer.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has learned from Paul's doctor that he cannot be the right king because he lacks a characteristic scar. Montania, on the other hand, would fall to Spain as soon as the dwarf state is without a ladder, which would mean tax payments for all 2000 inhabitants. Therefore, the country's politicians want to cover up the doppelganger, but the doctor turns to the Iberian ambassador, who wants proof of the king's authenticity. However, since this has come back in the meantime, the evidence can be provided. It becomes tangled because Paul Marina wants to confess that he is not a real king, but she found out about this before he confessed and now suspects him to be a con man. The real king, in turn, takes a liking to Marina, wants to marry her and also have Paul's revue performed in order to avoid a scandal - although Marina refuses to associate the revue with Paul, as it doesn't want to serve as a stepping stone to success for him.

Paul travels back to Munich and watches the revue on television. In several phone calls between the individual numbers, Paul and Marina reconcile, who finally announces that he is the composer of all pieces. The king realizes that this means his betrothal to Marina and accepts it. At the end, Marina sings in a wedding dress You are music and kisses Paul as he comes out of the TV screen.

criticism

The lexicon of international films described you are music as a “hit of the times in a successful comedy about Caterina Valente”.

For Kino.de , the film was one of “the countless Artur Brauner stenciled productions: first no love and no success, then love and success. Result: happy ending ”. The talk was of a "shallow hit comedy" in which Caterina Valene was the "focal point", and with "charm and a good voice elegantly circumnavigated every shoal of the shallow script".
