action

Ulrich Hansen is actually a doctor of medicine; but in the meantime he has turned his hobby into a profession and has become a singer. He is currently being celebrated by the public as the leading actor in an operetta. His great love recently belongs to Regine, the daughter of the industrialist Otto Roeders. Every evening the lady sits in the theater and cheers her admirer, much to the displeasure of his partner Ilonka Davarosch. She cannot understand that Ulrich has broken his private connection with her. Therefore, she wants to prevent the two of them from marrying by all means. Even old Roeders is not thrilled to have an artist for his son-in-law. Ulrich decided to return to his traditional job. In order to get Regine's father to approve the wedding, the singer uses a trick: After the farewell performance, he goes to Regine's box, kisses her in front of all theatergoers and announces his engagement.

Furious with jealousy, Ilonka forges a plan to prevent the wedding: The night before, Ulrich numbs her with ether. The wedding ceremony the next morning can still take place, even if there were major obstacles to overcome beforehand. As soon as the wedding ceremony is completed, Ilonka starts a big smear campaign - and Regine is promptly taken for it. During her honeymoon in Venice she accused her husband of being unfaithful.

Accompanied by a new admirer, the candy manufacturer Richard Säuerling, Ilonka travels to the newly wed couple in the lagoon city and follows them every step of the way. In doing so, she always knows how to spread the rumor that Ulrich Hansen is always looking for "her" proximity. When he then tries to flee the hotel "Paradies" with his wife, innumerable gondolas block the exit because Ilonka broadcast on the radio that Hansen would sing on the balcony at eleven o'clock. And it gets even bigger: Ilonka wants to perform with Ulrich. But now Hansen's patience is running out and he throws the intriguer out. Regine saw the incident and now knows that Ulrich only loves her. Both are happily reunited.

Reviews

"Director Paul Martin has set up a few pleasantly human scenes and kept the transitions to the musical performances flowing."

“A colorful as well as undemanding conversation full of prank gossip. The hackneyed stupidities are kept so short that the traditional operetta lard can comfortably assert itself. "

additional

As part of the filming in Venice, Peter Alexander made up his own honeymoon with wife Hilde and daughter Susi, which had been postponed again and again. He used every free hour to get to know the city with his family. On the last day of shooting, he fell ill with acute appendicitis, while Waltraut Haas got a severe flu. The film premiered on August 31, 1962.
