content

Content of the film is the romance between Prince William of Prussia, later Kaiser I . and the Polish princess Elisa Radziwiłł , who fails because of political interests.

Prohibition

After the production of the film by the UFA , Reich Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels prohibited the performance in December 1938. The reason was that his affair with the leading actress Lída Baarová had meanwhile ended. It was not until March 1950 that the FSK released the film under the title Liebeslegende and had its premiere on April 12, 1950 at the Kammerlichtspiele in Munich .

criticism

“In the end, unfortunately, we know all too well how painful unhappy love hurts. Lida Baarova dies the nicest screen death of a broken heart that has ever died. "
