Werner Pledath

Werner Pledath (born April 26, 1898 in Berlin , † December 5, 1965 in Berlin) was a German actor and voice actor. Pledath acted in more than 120 German feature films.

Life

Pledath attended the drama school of the German Theater in Berlin and worked from 1922 on various Berlin theaters, so u. a. at the Deutsches Theater , at the Hebbel Theater and founded the progressive “Group of Young Actors”. Since 1923 he also played in a few films, but increased his screen presence with the advent of the talkie. In addition, extensive synchronous work; Pledath was a busy voice actor in the 1930s. In the time of National Socialism , at the end of the war, he was still on the God-gifted list .

After the end of the war, an engagement as a character actor at the German Theater in his hometown led him from 1949 to 1961 , followed by film and television assignments for the German television network (DFF) and DEFA . He was able to convince in numerous small and large roles in addition to 15 DEFA feature films, in some so-called spiny animals and early TV productions, such as in 1950 as an economic saboteur Benthin in the film Benthin Family, made under the direction of Slatan Dudow and Kurt Maetzig .

After the construction of the Berlin Wall , Pledath, who lives in West Berlin, had to stop working for the German Theater and all film jobs in the eastern part of the city. From then on he only played occasionally on West Berlin stages, for example at the Hansa Theater and at the Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz .

Werner Pledath was married to the actress Loni Michelis since 1933 .
