Emil Stöhr

Emil Stöhr , actually Emil Paryla (born December 5, 1907 in Vienna , † February 26, 1997 in Munich ) was an Austrian actor and director .

Life

Emil Paryla came from a humble background, his father was an office clerk at the Ministry of Finance and his mother was a bottle washer in a cellar. In 1917 the father died and the mother raised her two sons Karl and Emil alone. After attending secondary school, he trained at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts. After the National Socialists came to power, the communist Stöhr emigrated to Switzerland. In 1948, together with his brother Karl Paryla , Wolfgang Heinz , Günther Haenel and Friedrich Neubauer, he took over the management of the New Theater in the Scala in Vienna. After La Scala closed, he went to the GDR in the mid-1950s and worked there as a director and actor at the Deutsches Theater until 1963 .

Stöhr was Katja Paryla's father .

His grave is in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Gr. 89, R. 18, No. 51)
