Rudolf Wessely

Rudolf Wessely (born January 19, 1925 in Vienna , † April 25, 2016 in Munich ) was an Austrian actor .

Live and act

After high school and military service in 1945/46, Wessely studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. He received his first engagements from 1946 to 1948 at the Vienna Art Theater (also as a dramaturge ) and from 1948 to 1950 at the Vienna Theater Die Insel . 1950 to 1958 he was an actor and director at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , as well as a teacher at the State Drama School .

From 1959 to 1960 he worked at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf , 1960 to 1962 at the Wuppertal Municipal Theaters . From 1962 to 1965 he was director of the Atelier-Theater in Bern . From 1965 to 1967 he worked as an actor for the Bavarian State Theater. From 1967 to 1970 he was director of the Kammerspiele Düsseldorf . 1970/71 followed an engagement at the Schauspielhaus Zurich .

From 1972 to 1987 he was a member of the Vienna Burgtheater , where he also worked as a director. He was one of the well-known castle actors and, in addition to this engagement, also made guest appearances at the Münchner Kammerspiele between 1976 and 1987 . From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the ensemble of the Münchner Kammerspiele under artistic director Dieter Dorn and with the latter moved to the Bayerische Staatsschauspiel in 2001 , where he was a member of the ensemble until summer 2011.

In 1997 he was the first actor to be honored with the ORF radio play award (actor of the year) , and since 2000 he has been a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts .
