Lie on, Liebling is a German TV film with Hannelore Elsner and Götz George from 2010.

action

The old 68er and environmental activist Hans-Peter "Hape" Wegener is unemployed and heavily in debt. The bailiff is constantly on the mat and son Rudi is an eternal student who is also short of money. When Hape's father dies and it turns out that he has bequeathed his fortune to a charitable foundation for education, Hape meets the wealthy Munich widow Martha Ebinghaus in the cemetery . Their dog damages Hapes jacket, whereupon Martha guiltily gives him her business card in order to pay for the damage later. Hape and Rudi then take on various part-time jobs, for example as amateur actors in the hospital, where they play patients for medical students so that they can learn how to make diagnoses and how to deal with patients. When Hape is fed up with the part-time jobs, he buys a new jacket and goes to Martha with the bill. This is extremely generous, whereupon Hape invites you to a coffee. At the next meeting in a café, he introduces himself to her as Gerd Rudolf and poses as a diplomat who is not allowed to reveal his activities.

Martha, who is in therapy because she is not happy and longs for more meaning in her life, is fascinated by Hape. She especially likes his little stories, of which Hape, as he says, has 1000 ready for her. Martha likes the anecdote about how the rabbit got his hare lip so much that she tells it to her granddaughter and her confused mother, whom she lovingly takes care of. However, Hape primarily sees it as a source of money with which he wants to reduce his debt of over 100,000 euros. The next time they go out - this time in a posh restaurant - and Hape pretends to have misplaced his wallet, Martha naturally pulls out her credit card and pays the bill again.

After Martha received a marriage proposal from her tax advisor Werner, but she refused, Hape stopped by her again. After dinner together in her villa, Hape makes suggestions on how to give her life meaning. They should invest in "green" stocks and environmentally friendly energy generation. When Martha puts her mother to bed, Hape falls asleep on the terrace. Before saying goodbye the next morning, he tells Martha another story that leads Martha to actually invest in Hape's proposed projects. As her tax advisor, Werner feels left out. Martha's single daughter Judith also sounds the alarm. Both tell Martha that Hape is only after her money and that she shouldn't see him anymore. Martha then decides to go to the south of France. She lets her family believe they want to turn their back on Hape. However, she meets with him and takes him to Nice , where she pays all costs. Both now spend a lot of time together and eventually get closer.

When Martha is attacked on a trip together, but she does not want to give her handbag and purse, Hape intervenes. He throws Martha's wallet to the thieves threatening with knives, whereupon the young men disappear. Martha, who is very angry about this, gets into an argument with Hape. After Werner told Martha by phone that her house had been broken into and that she had to return to Germany immediately to arrange with the insurance company, she left without seeing Hape again. Back in Munich, Hape is suspected of having been the burglar. Knowing that this is impossible and to hear new stories, Martha tries to get in touch with Hape again. Meanwhile, he is preparing a rundown house in the south of France and wants to equip it with environmentally friendly technology. Martha and Hape finally meet again at Nice airport. On the subsequent drive, Hape prepares to finally pour Martha pure wine about his life story. However, Martha gets ahead of him and confesses that she never believed him, but that she enjoyed every minute with him. She decides to live with him in France. They are now working together on Hape's house, which he bought from Martha's money.

Reviews

For the lexicon of international films , Lüg weiter, Liebling was a “convincing romantic comedy with Hannelore Elsner and Götz George about an initial white lie that developed a tremendous dynamic of its own”. Also prism praised the two main characters in the first place. It is not about "the rediscovery of comedy relationships", but "the actors play so freshly that it is a real pleasure".

According to TV Spielfilm , the director and screenwriter Gabriela Zerhau succeeded with the story "of the manipulated fraudster [...] an original fun", which was also "with noble chansons". The conclusion was: “Funny romance, charming and easy.” TV Movie spoke of a “[h] pus-harmless [n] story with a great cast”.
