TV Movie is a biweekly program guide published by the Bauer Media Group .

history

The first issue of TV Movie was published on December 6, 1991, after the Milchstraße publishing group opened the genre of feature-film-oriented program guides with the title TV Spielfilm . Any allegations of plagiarism from the Milky Way could be fended off in court. But parallels were obvious. In addition, the development editor Michael Lohmann switched directly from TV Spielfilm to TV Movie. Otherwise, the lead was the editor-in-chief Andreas Schmidt (later also developer and editor-in-chief of TV Today ) and the publishing director Michael Geringer.

Within the first year the sold circulation climbed to 1.6 million copies. The two million mark was exceeded as early as 1994 under editor-in-chief Michael Lohmann. Sales peaked in 1998 under editor-in-chief Michael Hopp , when an average of 2.7 million booklets went over the counter every 14 days. Due to the rise of low-priced competitors ( TV Direkt and TV 14 ), this circulation could no longer be maintained and fell within 20 years from 2,783,985 copies (quarter 2/1998) by 68 percent to 886,903 issues (quarter 2/2018). Uwe Bokelmann has been editor-in-chief since 2016. Part of the edition with the title TV Movie with DVD or the TV Movie Digital with DVD, which is only available as a subscription, includes a feature film DVD for a higher retail price.

Since 2007, TV Movie has been providing information on the growing number of WEB TV channels in the WEB TV sector .

Characteristics

As a feature film-oriented program guide, TV Movie has set itself the task of reviewing and evaluating all the films of the day. A five-pointed star with a face (the so-called movie star) in various forms is a sign of quality:

  • a gray star means boring or not recommended
  • a pink star means moderate to recommendable
  • a red star marks the film as recommendable
  • a red star with a gold sheen means very recommendable / tip
  • a blue star indicates "insider tips"

In addition to television-related topics and stories from the world of film, the magazine also contains service elements such as CD, DVD and multimedia discussions in what is known as the magazine cover.

While TV Movie dealt critically with the medium of television in its early days through background reports, the magazine now mainly lists prominent film experts and Hollywood topics as editorial competence.

On August 23, 2008, the first issue of TV Movie Digital was published. It also contains the programs of digital channels.

criticism

After TV Movie published an article about Roger Willemsen's cancer on August 18, 2015 , the magazine was criticized from various quarters for practicing tasteless clickbaiting . TV Movie had written on Facebook and Twitter: “+++ STRAIGHT REPORTS +++ One of these TV presenters has to withdraw because of CANCER DISEASE. We wish that he will be fine again soon ”, and this is illustrated with four pictures by Stefan Raab , Günther Jauch , Joko Winterscheidt and Roger Willemsen. A public apology followed on Facebook a few hours later. The Cologne Higher Regional Court therefore sentenced TV Movie to a fine of 20,000 euros.

TV Movie published alleged interviews several times, which did not take place as such but were copied from earlier statements without the knowledge of the interview partner.

readership

51 percent of readers are male. The average reader is 42 years old and has a net household income of 3,353 euros.

useful information

The blue background is a trademark for biweekly television magazines. The reason given by the former editor-in-chief Stefan Westendorp is that blue is one of the most popular colors in Germany and is considered to be friendly and neutral. The licenses for the photos of the female celebrities on the front page are said to cost up to $ 20,000.
