Joachim "Joko" Winterscheidt (born January 13, 1979 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German television presenter and actor . He became known as part of the duo Joko and Klaas .

Life

Winter Scheidt began after the High School , a training for advertising merchant , which he broke off. After applying unsuccessfully for pilot training , he began an internship in Hamburg at the TV production company Me, Myself & Eye Entertainment . There he was promoted to a permanent editor through a traineeship and worked for the television stations VOX , RTL , Arte , ProSieben and MTV Germany , among others . A meeting with Markus Kavka brought him to an MTV moderator casting , which was successful. Joko Winterscheidt has been an integral part of the MTV moderator team since 2005. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 he hosted The Dome . From June 2009 to March 2011 he moderated the program MTV Home with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf . Also in 2009 he founded the fashion label German Garment with actor Matthias Schweighöfer , designer Kilian Kerner and music producer Sebastian Radlmeier.

From October 2010, Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf were under contract with the television production company Endemol . Endemol also produced, among other things, Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf's joint ProSieben show 17 meters , which has been broadcast since June 11, 2011. Before that, the show Ahnungslos was broadcast from November 2010 , in which passers-by were addressed in various situations, involved in questions and filmed with a hidden camera. The program was supported by the Federal Agency for Civic Education .

On March 24, 2011, Winterscheidt hosted the 2011 Echo Awards in Berlin as a guest host alongside Ina Müller . From July 2011, Winterscheidt tried his hand at radio host for the first time. He could be heard alongside Simon Beeck in 1Live's summer program .

From October 6, 2011, he and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf presented the unofficial successor to the MTV Home program called neoParadise on ZDFneo . The Joko & Klaas show: the bill is on us! was discontinued after one episode. The savings banks let the two compete against each other in several competitions under the title Giro sucht Hero . The videos of the competitions were made available on the Internet and users were asked to select the Sparkasse's advertising face on this basis. In 2011 the duo again hosted the show Ahnungslos . Furthermore, Winterscheidt promoted the mobile operator Netzclub from 2011 to 2012 .

At the end of 2011, Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf founded the joint production company Florida TV together with Endemol . In this joint venture, which was 51 percent owned by Endemol and 49 percent by Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf, they produced all formats. Florida TV ( Black Flamingo for short at the beginning of 2019 ) has been an independent production company of Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf since 2019 .

From April to December 2012, he hosted together with the musician Olli Schulz every other Sunday from 16 to 18h the mission 16 and two on Radio Eins .

Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf got a new prime-time show on ProSieben in the summer of 2012 , which bears the name Joko versus Klaas - The Duel Around the World .

From February 25, 2013 to June 20, 2017, Winterscheidt presented the program Circus HalliGalli together with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf on ProSieben , for which he received the Echo in March 2014 together with Heufer-Umlauf and the Grimme Prize in April 2014 .

Together with Peter Olof Olsson, he founded PeJay GmbH based in Munich in 2014 .

In 2017, together with Tarifhaus, he founded the mobile communications provider Besser Mobile, whose brand face he embodies.

Together with Paul Ripke , he started the podcast All roads lead to fame in September 2017 . In February 2019 he toured a total of six German cities with AWFNR . On July 31, 2019, he published a teaser for the format Und Winterscheidt on the AWFNR account . On the same day, all five episodes in which Winterscheidt speaks to people whom he says he has always wanted to get to know were published.

Winterscheidt is committed to learning to read and write as part of the iCHANCE campaign , which is carried out by the Federal Association for Literacy and Basic Education . For this he also loaned the radio play With a Black Eye! his voice.

On March 22, 2018, the first issue of the magazine JWD - Joko Winterscheidts printed product appeared , which was published as an offshoot of the magazine Stern by Gruner + Jahr . The magazine was discontinued at the end of 2019.

In July 2019, he and Andreas Weinzierl founded a startup for the sale of a cheap e-bike called Sushi .

Since January 2020 he has been Chief Curiosity Officer of the German edition of the magazine GQ - Gentlemen's Quarterly .

In May 2020, after their victory in the show Joko & Klaas against ProSieben , Winterscheidt and Heufer-Umlauf drew attention to the sexual harassment of women in the 15 minutes provided by the broadcaster at 8:15 p.m. in the show Men Worlds hosted by Sophie Passmann .

Private life

Joachim Winterscheidt was born in Mönchengladbach and grew up with two older sisters in the Schwalmtaler district of Waldniel in the Viersen district . When he was six years old, his mother died of breast cancer .

He has been the father of a daughter since July 30, 2010. He lives with his family in Munich .

Contrary to what has been said for years, his middle name is not Cornelius. This was freely invented and distributed by Winterscheidt and his television partner Klaas Heufer-Umlauf. In the WDR telecast free room! of May 22, 2016, he made it clear that he had no middle name at all.
