17 meters - how far can you go? is a German action game show that was broadcast on the private broadcaster ProSieben in 2011 and 2012 . The moderators were Joachim Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf . The original "The Whole 19 Yards" comes from England and has been broadcast there since April 2010. Under the name Powerplay - A total of 17 meters , the format was broadcast for some time in Austria on ORF eins from 2010 .

Rules of the game

2011

Joko and Klaas each start with a group of 5 candidates. In several game rounds, the candidates in a group each have to overcome a 17 meter long course and guess a term they are looking for. Before the candidates set off on the course, they receive eight information about the term they are looking for on their screen. As soon as a player thinks he knows the solution, he goes to the "17 meters". Whoever is the first to master the route with the changing challenges and press the buzzer can solve the problem and, if the answer is correct, is in the next lap. After a correct answer, each course is repeated until only one candidate has failed, who is then eliminated. The two group winners finally compete against each other in the final for a profit of 25,000 euros.

2012

Joko and Klaas each start with a team of 4 candidates. In each of the 14 rounds, the two choose a candidate who then compete against each other on the course. The courses work as in 2011, but are only ever played once, but two similar courses always follow one another (“soft” and “hard”). For the victory in one round, the winning team wins an increasing amount of money. The team that won an unrivaled amount of money first moves into the final. There a course has to be conquered by all team members in 3 minutes one after the other. Depending on how many team members have conquered the course at the end, there is an additional 10,000, 20,000, 40,000 or 100,000 euros for the team. Before each round, the team is asked whether they want to send the next member, because if the time runs out while a team member is on the way, the team only wins the money from the up to 14 preliminary rounds.

criticism

Stefan Tewes fromquotemeter.de praises the often “very cleverly packaged” information on the terms that “invite you to take a guess”. He also positively mentions the “red, black and white” look, which “stands out from the cheap look of some other summer entertainment”. The two moderators Joachim Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf are also praised for their "open to cheeky manner". Tewes, on the other hand, is annoyed by the fact that the original one-hour format lasts two hours in Germany. The “competitive mentality” is also only “faked”, so Tewes, who is annoyed that the two teams [in the first season] only meet in the final.
