I - Despicable 3 (Original title: Despicable Me 3 ) is an American computer-animated comedy film from the year 2017 by Chris Meledandri was produced. The film is the sequel to Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013). It was produced by Illumination Entertainment for Universal Pictures . As with the spin-off Minions , Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda directed it .
The film has grossed over a billion US dollars worldwide to date . It ranks sixth on the list of the most successful animated films; 40th place on the list of the most successful films (as of August 8, 2020). In Germany, around 4 million cinema-goers have seen the film so far (as of September 2017).

Gru and Lucy try to stop Balthazar Bratt - a former child star who was mentally stuck in the 1980s from a successful TV show at the time - from stealing a giant pink diamond. Balthazar hates the world and especially Hollywood for the fact that his series "Villain Bratt" was canceled. As a result, he came up with a sinister plan that should ultimately secure him world domination so that he is never laughed at by others again. Gru and Lucy, after preventing the theft but failing to arrest Balthazar, are fired by the new head of the AVL (Anti-Criminal League) Valerie Da Vinci. Balthazar then succeeds in disguise to steal the huge pink diamond.
Gru finds himself with his twin brother Dru, whose existence his mother wanted to hide. Unlike Gru in earlier times and her ancestors, Dru is a miserable villain who does not lack money. After a day to get to know each other, Gru cannot refuse his offer to land a final coup with him, despite his way of life and his skills. Together they want to steal the diamond from Balthazar Bratt. Gru hides from his brother that he wants to use the diamond to get his and Lucy's job back at AVL. They manage to break into Balthazar's hiding place and with the help of Lucy they flee back to Dru's property with the diamond. After Dru learns that his brother has lied to and betrayed him, the two split up in an argument. During the subsequent departure of Gru and his family, however, Balthazar is able to kidnap the children and get the diamond back. In order to free the children and prevent Balthazar from destroying Hollywood and sending it into space, the brothers and Lucy work together again. Together they manage to put Balthazar down and save the children and the city. Gru and Dru get along again; Gru and Lucy will be employed again at AVL. Dru now lives with Gru and one night goes on a villainous mission again with the Minions to maintain the family tradition.

Steve Burke, CEO of NBCUniversal , confirmed in September 2013 that a third film in the Despicable Me series is in development. Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio , the scriptwriters of the first two films, will be there again for the third part. On April 13, 2016, South Park co-inventor Trey Parker was announced for the role of supervillain Balthazar Bratt.

Despicable Me 3 celebrated its world premiere on June 14, 2017 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy . The film was released in the United States on June 30, 2017, in German-speaking countries on July 6, 2017.
A first trailer was released on December 14, 2016, a second on March 14, 2017, and another third on May 24, 2017.
