Jenny Sarah Slate (born March 25, 1982 in Milton , Massachusetts ) is an American actress , stand-up comedian , voice actress and screenwriter .

Life

Slate was born in 1982 as the second of three daughters of the writer Ron Slate and the ceramicist Nancy Slate (née Gilson). During her studies at Columbia University from 2000 to 2004, she became part of the improv group Fruit Paunch and met Gabe Liedman, with whom she later founded the comedy duo Gabe & Jenny .

During a performance at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York, she was discovered by an employee of Saturday Night Live (SNL) and hired for the show. She performed at SNL from 2009 to 2010. This is followed by numerous appearances in television programs and films.

In 2010 she produced the animated short film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On , for which she also acted as screenwriter and voice actress. The film developed into a little viral hit on the internet and was followed by the sequel Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, Two and Three .

Since 2012 she has worked as a voice actress for the animated series Bob's Burgers . In the same year she took on a role as a speaker in the animated film The Lorax .

She was married to film editor and director Dean Fleischer-Camp from 2012 to 2016 .
