Venom is an American science fiction - anti-hero film, which started off in the German and two days later American US in theaters on October 3, 2018th The director took Ruben Fleischer .
The film is based in part on the comic stories Venom : Lethal Protector (1993, German editions: Deadly Protector or Protector of Innocence ) and Planet of the Symbiotes (1995, Planet of the Symbiotees ).
Venom is the first film from Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters . Films about Morbius the living vampire (starring Jared Leto ) and Kraven the hunter are planned next .
action
A Life Foundation spaceship that has taken four alien life forms on board crashes in the Malaysian rainforest. The entire crew except for the commander was killed. When he is about to be driven to the next city in an ambulance, it turns out that one of the four symbiotic life forms has connected with him, which then passes to a doctor, takes possession of her and causes the ambulance to crash. The doctor, controlled by the symbiote, whose injuries from the accident heal in seconds, then sets off on foot to the next town, while the other three symbiotes are recovered and brought to the headquarters of the Life Foundation in the USA.
Eddie Brock is a San Francisco , California- based journalist and engaged to lawyer Anne Weying. On behalf of his broadcaster, he should do an interview with Dr. Carlton Drake, the founder and head of the mysterious Life Foundation. For fear of a libel suit, his boss asks Eddie not to be critical about what his trademark is. The interview goes well at first, but Eddie has become suspicious of an email from the Life Foundation, which he found on Anne's laptop without her knowledge and which deals with human experiments. When he asks Drake about it, Drake breaks off the interview and has Eddie and his team thrown out by security, which results in Eddie's dismissal. Anne is also fired for being believed to be Eddie's informant. After these events, Anne separates from Eddie.
Six months later, Eddie lives alone in a shabby apartment and watches while shopping in Mrs. Chen's supermarket as she is taken out by an armed protection racket. The Life Foundation has meanwhile made initial progress in its laboratories and was able to establish a first symbiosis with one of the extraterrestrial life forms in an animal experiment, whereupon Drake orders the first human experiments. Due to ethical concerns, the laboratory manager Dr. Skirth contacts Eddie to collect evidence to expose Drake's machinations. To do this, she smuggles Eddie into the Life Foundation laboratory. When Eddie, while collecting the evidence, discovers Maria, a homeless woman who is known to him and is scared to death, in a test cell and frees him, he is attacked by her. The symbiote inherent in her is transferred to Eddie and Maria dies. When the alarm is triggered, Eddie has to flee and inadvertently makes use of superhuman abilities such as super strength.
Eddie is looking for Anne and her new friend Dr. Dan Lewis to tell them about the evidence they found. Since Eddie behaves strangely and suffers from binge eating, Dan has him taken to the hospital and subject to an MRI . During the examination, however, Eddie shows that he is sensitive to high frequencies, whereupon the examination is stopped and Eddie is sent home. The symbiote is also vulnerable to fire. Meanwhile, Drake finds out that Eddie has broken into the Life Foundation, and Dr. Infect Skirth as the next test person with a symbiote and sends his security chief Roland Treece and a team of mercenaries to his home. In his apartment Eddie has another binge eating and thinks he hears a voice. Dan tells him on the phone that he is apparently infected with a parasite. When Drake's mercenaries storm the apartment shortly afterwards, Eddie defeats her with sudden appearances of other superpowers - instinctive and lightning-quick leaping and receding limbs - whereby the voice warns him of attacks and takes control of the attacks. Eddie finally escapes from the mercenaries on his motorcycle and a serious accident occurs during the chase. The symbiote then takes shape with the help of Eddie's body, causing Eddie's injuries to heal. Before the figure can eat Treece, the police intervene, and Eddie and the figure flee across the water.
When Eddie is safe, the figure opposite him introduces itself as "Venom". Venom explains to him that his species has found humans and that his fellows are planning an invasion of Earth with the help of Drake's spaceships. To prevent this, Eddie breaks into the office building of his former employer that night with Venom's help and leaves his boss the collected evidence from Drake's laboratory. When Eddie tries to leave the building, he is faced with a police team, which he can take out with Venom's skills. He forbids Venom to eat the cops and other "good people". Anne, who arrives shortly afterwards, takes Eddie to the hospital based on the MRI results, where Dan wants to remove the "parasite," as he calls Venom. But Venom attacks Dan and Anne spontaneously starts the MRI scanner. Due to the high frequency, Venom is separated from Eddie and locked in the examination room, from which he can escape a short time later via the ventilation.
In the meantime, the two remaining symbionts are in the laboratory and Dr. Skirth dies and Drake, knowing of Venom's existence, has Eddie kidnapped as he leaves the hospital. Meanwhile, however, the Malaysian symbiote who last possessed a little girl's body has reached San Francisco and connected with Drake. He explains to Drake that there are more of his kind and that he can bring them to Earth on Drake's spaceships. When Eddie is finally brought to Drake's, he and the symbiote try to find out where Venom is. Since Venom is no longer connected to Eddie, he wants Treece to kill him in a forest. But shortly before that, Venom intervenes, who after his escape from the hospital briefly “borrowed” Anne as the new host without her dying. Venom eventually reconnects with Eddie and explains to him that Drake's symbiote is "Riot," the leader of his group. Together with Eddie, Venom wants to thwart Riot's plans to overrun the earth and wipe out the life on it, because he has taken a liking to earth and he can be here with Eddie more than in his world.
Drake is now preparing a spaceship to launch to bring even more symbiotes to earth. On the way into the spaceship, however, Venom stands in the way of Riot, whose skills are even better than the Venoms, and a fight ensues between the two. Anne has now made it into the control center of the launch pad and causes high-frequency feedback in the loudspeaker system that separates the two symbionts from their hosts. Eddie is able to knock Drake off a platform in combat, but Riot reconnects with Drake and seriously injures Eddie. Riot makes it into the spaceship, but Venom is able to re-establish symbiosis with Eddie in time and heal his serious injury. Together they damage the fuel tanks of the starting spaceship. The ensuing explosion kills Riot and Drake, and Venom, despite his vulnerability, subjects himself to the flames of the explosion to parachute Eddie's fall before he falls into the water.
A few days later, Eddie and Anne talk about what happened. Anne regrets the loss of Venom and says she took a job as a public defender while Eddie wanted to concentrate on writing. Eddie doesn't let her know that Venom survived and is still connected to him. In Mrs. Chen's supermarket, the two can finally put the protection racketeer and Eddie allows Venom to eat these "bad people".
In the mid-credit scene , Eddie goes to San Quentin Prison to interview serial killer Cletus “Carnage” Kasady . This announces thereby, soon to come free and a "bloodbath" ( Carnage to organize).

Already in the creation phase of The Amazing Spider-Man it was planned that Venom should get its own offshoot film . Allegedly, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick should have already written a script for this at the time. In the Marvel Comics , Venom is a headstrong, symbiotic alien who needs a host in order to survive, but who in return can give it extraordinary powers. As a real character and opponent of Spider-Man , Venom was first seen in the movie Spider-Man 3 and was played by Topher Grace . As in the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming , which came to the cinemas in 2017, Venom should first of all establish the title character as an independent character.
In March 2016, it was announced that Sony had hired Dante Harper to write a script for a film about the Marvel character. However, the film is not supposed to play in the same film universe as the planned Spider-Man film or the Avengers films, which is why Harper cannot fall back on the previous scripts by the authors Paul Wernick , Rhett Reese , Ed Solomon or Alex Kurtzman .
Originally directed by Alex Kurtzman . In 2014, he described the main character's appeal to MTV: “He's a much darker character. The film music was composed by Ludwig Göransson . The soundtrack for the film, which comprises a total of 18 pieces of music, was released for download by Sony Classical on October 5, 2018.
After the first teaser at the beginning of February 2018, a first long trailer for the film was released at the end of April 2018. The film was released in German cinemas on October 3, 2018 and in US cinemas two days later. The film celebrated its world premiere on October 1, 2018 at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles. On February 14, 2019, the film was released in 2D, 3D and 4K.

Reviews
The film was only able to convince 29% of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and received a Metascore of 35 out of 100 possible points on Metacritic .
Valentin Aschenbrenner from IGN says that Venom needs a long time to finally get going: “Although the opening scene establishes how the symbionts came to earth, we have to constantly talk about what happens when, how and why is. This rumination runs through the entire film and at some point becomes longer than Venom's tongue. ”Nor does Venom care about adhering to the film's own established rules, Aschenbrenner said, and so the police are actively investigating Eddie's first transformation and the subsequent rampage the anti-hero, only to stand on it and watch him transform into a monster before their eyes, the very sight of which makes you lose control of your bladder. Aschenbrenner goes on to write that a simple, yet confused plot is complemented by an interchangeable 08/15 villain and a finale that 200 percent less CGI would have done. The dynamic between Eddie Brock and his alien friend is the absolute highlight of Venom .
Daniel Krüger from Musikexpress says about the antagonist that Carlton Drake almost became a good villain, but his supposedly visionary speeches to his scientists and test subjects were just as trite as the fact that he would also be a kind of Venom in the finale of the film, i.e. only one Hero's mirror with the exact same skills. Superhero films had actually abolished this trend a few years ago, according to Krüger, but Venom is lagging a decade and a half behind in narratives, in rare moments also with the effects: "In the final battle, you simply can't look through all the computer stuff."

As expected , Venom climbed to the top of the cinema charts in both North America and Germany after its release. While the film grossed 80 million US dollars on its opening weekend in the USA , it had sales of 3.3 million euros in Germany. Worldwide, Venom generated 205 million US dollars in the first few days. Worldwide revenues are so far at 856.09 million US dollars, which puts it in 77th place (as of August 8, 2020) of the most financially successful films of all time and 7th of the most successful films of 2018 . He was able to bring in US $ 213.52 million in North America alone. In Germany, the film has so far recorded 1,374,219 visitors and was able to generate 13.96 million euros from them .
