Filmstarts is an online portal for everything to do with film and television . While at the beginning mainly reviews of current movies were in the foreground, Filmstarts has developed an ever larger entertainment offer over time. In addition to film reviews, the spectrum currently includes daily updated film news, reports from festivals and premieres, (video) interviews, trailers, DVD and series reviews, topic specials, picture galleries, charts (ranking lists), box office results, highlights of television entertainment and various participation opportunities for website visitors.
The Filmstarts GbR was founded in 2001 by Carsten Baumgardt (journalist) and Tobias Leckeband (programmer). On January 17, 2002, the first version of Filmstarts went online. In March 2003 Jürgen Armbruster became a partner in Filmstarts GbR.
In March 2009, Filmstarts GbR changed its name to Filmstarts GmbH . Since then, Filmstarts has been a subsidiary of the Allociné group from France, which was founded in 1993 by Jean-David Blanc and Patrick Holzman . Up until 2012, the headquarters and editorial office of film releases were in Berlin-Mitte. Then the company changed offices and moved to the Berlin district of Friedrichshain. The managing director is Grégoire Lassalle, who is also CEO of the Allociné Group. Michael Jogwer has been managing business in Germany as Managing Director and authorized signatory since November 2010.
Filmstarts has been one of Webedia's brands in Germany since 2013.
The portal has a database with information on more than 70,000 films, 400,000 star sites, 5,000 TV series and programs from around 2,500 cinemas in Germany.
