Alan Baumgarten

Alan Edward Baumgarten (born February 1, 1957 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film editor .

Life

Baumgarten began working in the film business as an assistant editor in the mid-1980s. Starting with Rebel Waves from 1989, he is active as an independent editor. In the 1990s in particular, he was primarily involved in low-budget and television productions. In the early 2000s, he worked for a number of television series and films; since 2004 he has been editing primarily for feature films .

Since 2004 he worked several times with the director Jay Roach .

In 2008 Baumgarten was awarded an Emmy for editing the film Recount . He was also honored with an Eddie Award by the American Cinema Editors in 2009 .

For his work on American Hustle , Baumgarten, along with his colleagues Jay Cassidy and Crispin Struthers, was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Editing in 2014 .
