Jay Roach (born June 14, 1957 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) is an American film director , cameraman , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Roach graduated from Stanford University . However, he later graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in film production . His first small success was with his short film “Asleep at the Wheel”, which was proposed for a student award while he was still a student.

He achieved great fame in 1997 with the comedy film Austin Powers - The Sharpest Thing Her Majesty has to offer , the two sequels (1999 and 2002) of which he also directed. Roach also made other comedies before releasing his first drama film, Recount , in 2008 . His political drama Game Change - The Sarah Palin Effect from 2012 received a great response . After a comedy in the same year, the biopic Trumbo followed in 2015 , which was again a success with critics. Also Bombshell (2019) is based on real events. He has also been active as a producer since the 1990s and as such is often involved in his own productions.

He has been awarded an Emmy four times, in 2009 and 2013 he also won the DGA Award from the Directors Guild of America .

Roach has been married to the singer Susanna Hoffs , a member of the Bangles , since 1993 . They have two sons (* 1995, 1998) together.
