Austin Powers - Spy in a secret missionary position (Original title: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me ) is an American parodic agent comedy from 1999 . The film opened in German cinemas on October 14, 1999.
action
After Austin Powers wrote Dr. Evil's plans to destroy the world have been prevented, he marries Miss Kensington. Only in the bridal suite does he notice that she is a nasty FemBot. FemBots, also known as female robots, are from Dr. Evil engineered, feminine-looking robots whose job it is to destroy Austin Powers. FemBots are characterized by the dimensions 90-60-90 as well as machine gun nipples from which they can shoot and spray an anesthetic gas. In addition, every FemBot is equipped with a self-destruct mode.
Now single again, Austin soon finds out that his mojo has been stolen from him. Without his mojo, he loses all of his sexual attraction and confidence.
Behind the theft of the mojo is Dr. Evil. He traveled back to 1969 with a time machine to commission Fieser Fettsack ( Fat Bastard ) to steal Austin's mojo while he was in cold sleep. Dr. Evil is powered by Mini-Me, its child-sized clone.
Austin is sent after his boss, Basil Exposition, in a time-travel VW New Beetle to meet Dr. Evil's plans to destroy the world can once again be prevented. Austin quickly finds support from the attractive CIA agent Felicity Schickfick (English Felicity Shagwell ), who is a big fan of his.
Dr. Evil has meanwhile holed up on a tropical volcanic island, in whose volcano Dr. Evil's likeness was chiseled. Austin and Felicity quickly find Dr. Evil's trail. He wants to work with one of Dr. Alan Parson constructed " lasers " to destroy the earth. He inappropriately names the project Alan Parsons Project after the builder of the laser . Since Dr. Evil was placed on the moon, it is quickly renamed " Death Star ".
After Dr. Evil has gone to the moon and Austin followed him there with Felicity, it comes to a showdown . Austin has to decide whether he wants to save the earth, his mojo or Felicity. But Austin wouldn't be a master spy if he didn't have an adequate solution for this situation - with the help of the time machine he gets a second self, with the help of which he can now save two things.
Reviews
“Bright parody of the James Bond films, mixed with numerous clichés of the exuberant 60s pop culture, which is constantly confronted with the customs of the present. The main objective of the film is " political correctness ", which is presented with partly apt, partly drastic and silly humor. "
“As in the predecessor Austin Powers - The Sharpest Thing Her Majesty Has to Offer (1997), lead actor Mike Myers attracts all sympathy with his exaggerated macho behavior. And as a screenwriter he uses the same recipe with which the trio Zucker / Abrahams / Zucker ( The Naked Cannon ) was successful: He satirized an established movie myth (James Bond) by transferring it to an ambience foreign to the genre (Flower Power) and the whole thing showered with shoddy gags. The gist of the plot - Austin Powers' battle against the bald Dr. Evil - ultimately remains completely unimportant. The story only serves as a foil for gorgeous, grotesque script ideas. "

Title censorship
When the film was released it was controversial in the UK because to shag is a vulgar word for intercourse. So there were two different TV spots for the film in the UK, one for early and one for late hours. The spot aired during the day used only part of the title ( Austin Powers: The Spy Who ) and contained only slightly suggestive scenes from the film. The spot, which aired later that evening, stated the full title. There were also two versions of the posters: one with Austin Powers 2 as the title, the other had asterisks in the middle of the word in question. In Singapore the title was changed to The Spy Who Shioked Me ( shiok means "a good feeling").
Guest roles
After the success of the first part, an unusually large number of celebrities volunteered to appear in guest roles, including Elvis Costello , Burt Bacharach , Rob Lowe , Elizabeth Hurley , Clint Howard , Kristen Johnston , Kevin Durand , Jennifer Coolidge , Will Ferrell , Jerry Springer , Rebecca Romijn-Stamos , Woody Harrelson , Fred Willard , Tim Robbins and Willie Nelson .
