action

The film shows the Florida vote recounting during the 2000 US presidential election . Al Gore's chief of staff, Ron Klain, urges the vote to be re-counted as Warren Christopher fears that the United States will damage its image around the world. Republicans refer to the events as a "street battle for the presidency". James Baker and Florida Election Officer Katherine Harris join the public debate, leading to a trial. On December 8, 2000, the court ordered the recount.

Reviews

Brian Lowry wrote in Variety magazine on May 19, 2008 that the film was "smart and star-studded." He offers "another fine-tuned representation" by Kevin Spacey. Tom Wilkinson manages to portray the embodied character of James Baker in the relatively limited time “elegant, avaricious, unscrupulous and brilliant” .

“The exciting film takes up the events in a mixture of fiction and documents, whereby it focuses on the chief strategists of the election campaigners and their tough struggle. Well played, it oscillates between drama and ironic satire, does not take sides directly, but names tricks, mistakes and mishaps of both camps. "

Awards

The film received an Emmy in 2008 for best television film , for direction and for editing . The eight other nominations for the same award included those for the script and for portrayals by Kevin Spacey, Tom Wilkinson, Bob Balaban, Denis Leary and Laura Dern.

At the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2009, Laura Dern won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television .
