Jim Denault

James A. Denault (born July 25, 1960 in New York ) is an American cameraman .

Life

Jim Denault was born one of six children to a social worker and pharmacist and later elementary school teacher. He grew up in Hudson Valley and took an early interest in photography. Originally, he wanted to be a photographer, which is why he studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology . It was only during his studies that he began to be interested in film. After graduating in 1982, he worked in a number of odd jobs including making short films for the Rochester City School District cable channel . Through acquaintances he met some independent filmmakers in 1985 who made the film Cheap Shots . Through the cameramen there, he received the tip to go to New York City to work as a cameraman for the film. He got his first job when he replaced Michael Bonvillain in the production of the low-budget film The Fridge as a camera assistant for Paul Gibson . Only a short time later he made his debut with the independent film Another Girl Another Planet directed by Michael Almereyda as the chief cameraman for a feature film. Occasionally he also works for television.

Denault was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his work on the 1994 film Nadja . 2005 was involved in several episodes of the series Carnivàle and received an Emmy nomination for it. His involvement in Game Change - The Sarah Palin Effect earned him his second Emmy nomination in 2012.
