The Rochester Institute of Technology is a private training institute with a focus on career preparation which was founded in 1829 as the "Rochester Athenaeum". The campus is located in the town of Henrietta , just south of Rochester in the US state of New York.

Course offerings and campus

The institute is primarily a teaching facility and does little research. It is best known for its engineering and photography degrees. The RIT, at which more than 15,000 students were enrolled in 2005, is divided into nine colleges, with one school each in Prague, Kosovo, Dubrovnik and Dubai.

The campus area covers 5 km². The facility is surrounded by forest areas and bodies of water, which form a very varied swamp area. The campus itself consists of 237 buildings, some of which were designed by well-known architects such as Kevin Roche , with an area of ​​474,000 m².

Sports

The university's sports teams call themselves the Tigers . The ice hockey team takes part in the US college championship .
