Meet the Parents (original title: Meet the Parents ) is an American film comedy from Jay Roach from the year 2000 . The main roles are played by Ben Stiller as the future son-in-law and Robert De Niro as the bride's father. The film had two sequels with My wife, her in-laws and me and My wife, our children and I.
The film is a remake of Greg Glienna's 1992 independent film Meet the Parents . The original was never widely distributed or released on video and DVD.
action
Gaylord "Greg" Focker is a Jewish male nurse . In dialect, his last name can also be pronounced like " Fucker ". Focker drives his girlfriend Pam, whom he wants to propose marriage, to her parents' parents to introduce himself to them and to attend the wedding of Pam's sister. But everything goes wrong that weekend that can go wrong. It also turns out that Pam's father, Jack, who distrusts Greg from the start, is a former CIA agent.
The problems begin already lost as Greg's luggage at the airport and he no fresh clothes at his in-laws -to-be emerges. Greg had to borrow fresh clothes from Pam's younger brother Denny, including his jacket, without realizing that there was a marijuana pipe in their pockets. Jack promptly believes this belongs to Greg, and he begins to watch his future son-in-law critically.
When Jack uses his old CIA contacts to check Greg, he receives incorrect information about him, thinking Greg's full first name is "Gregory". He learns later that his real first name is Gaylord and Greg is just his nickname.
Greg's desperate attempts to win the sympathy of Pam's family lead from one catastrophe to the next: he overdoes it at a water volleyball game and hits Pam's sister Debbie in the face with the ball, which leaves her black eye. A defective toilet flush causes the waste water tank to overflow into the garden, and the attempt to kill the beloved family hangover "Mr. Jinx ”from the roof unluckily sets the altar in the garden on fire.
After a pile of other faux pas, Greg finally leaves alone, exasperated. Shortly before that, he finally got his suitcase back and the family gathered in front of the house learned his real name through the messenger: " Gaylord M. Focker", "Gay Focker" for short. Sequels
The film received a sequel in 2004 with My Wife, Her In-Laws and I (original title: Meet the Fockers ), in which Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand play Greg's parents.
The third part with the title My wife, our children and me (original title: Little Fockers ) started on December 23, 2010 in German cinemas. The main roles are played again by Ben Stiller , Robert De Niro , Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand . This time it was directed by Paul Weitz and not by Jay Roach as in the previous two parts .
