Lothar Blumhagen

Lothar Blumhagen (born July 16, 1927 in Leipzig ) is a German actor and voice actor .

Life

Lothar Blumhagen completed his acting training at the Smolny-Heerdt School in Leipzig and also attended the local University of Music. He made his stage debut in Leipzig in 1947 - in the literary cabaret Die Rampe . This was followed by stage engagements in Leipzig, Halle and Berlin.

From 1954 to 1956 Blumhagen belonged to the ensemble of the German theater in the eastern part of the city. During this time he also made his film debut ( Hexen , 1954) and received other film roles in DEFA productions (including Sommerliebe , 1955). In 1956 he moved to the western part of the city, where he found long-term engagements at the Schlosspark and Schiller Theater and also took part in the premiere of Peter Weiss ' persecution and murder of Jean-Paul Marat . For his services to the stage, he was also named Berlin State Actor .

In addition to his stage work, Blumhagen was rarely seen in film and television productions after his DEFA engagements. a. in the semi-documentary films Witness of Time - Käthe Kollwitz (1985) and the FRG-GDR coproduction Caspar David Friedrich - Limits of Time (1986) as well as in series guest roles such as 1990 in an episode of Hotel Paradies .

Lothar Blumhagen has also achieved particular fame through his voice. As early as 1950 he began as a radio announcer at the Leipzig station. This was followed by the first synchronous roles at DEFA. For his highly respected synchronization of Gérard Philipe Rot and Schwarz , he also received the Heinrich Greif Prize of the GDR, second class , in 1956 . He continued this activity in West Berlin and developed into one of the most sought-after voice actors in Germany, with roles in over 600 films. His distinctive voice and distinguished way of speaking often predestined him for parts with self-deprecating British understatement, such as for Roger Moore in the role of Lord Brett Sinclair in the German version of the crime series Die Zwei or as Higgins ( John Hillerman ) in the second dubbed version of the crime series Magnum . The prominent acting colleagues whom Blumhagen lent his voice over the years include u. a. Michael Caine ( The Forgotten Valley ) , John Cleese ( Silverado ) , Gary Cooper ( Whirlwind of Love ), Tony Curtis (including Hercule Poirot - Deadly Parties ), Kirk Douglas ( keyword “heavy water” ) , Henry Fonda ( Too late for heroes - Leap to death ) , Christopher Lee ( The skull of the Marquis de Sade and many others, series), Peter O'Toole ( The Bible ), Dennis Price ( Nobility committed ), Alan Rickman ( Galaxy Quest ), Andreas Katsulas ( Babylon 5 ), Edward G. Robinson ( A Man with Imagination ) and Kenneth Williams ( Carry on Matron and Carry on Doctor again ). In Die Unbrechlichen (1976) he dubbed “Deep Throat”, a main character who is almost exclusively characterized by her voice.
