action

Shortly before the death of his father "Daddy Tang", his son Pootie Tang, a casual womanizer, receives a magical belt from him, with which he, like his father, is supposed to fight criminals. As a teenager, Pootie becomes a well-known musician, advocates the interests of children and, as his father asked, fights evildoers with the help of his belt. LecterCorp CEO Dick Lecter notes the positive impact Pootie Tang has had on society and the negative impact on his company's bottom line. After his henchman and villain, Dirty Dee, is driven out of town by Pootie's friends, Lecter puts prostitute Ireenie on Pootie Tang to get him to come to a deal with LecterCorp. The plan works and Pootie's name is used on harmful products such as alcohol bottles, cigarettes and unhealthy corn flakes. Then his fans turn away from him. As a result, Pootie tries to "find" himself and travels to a distant farm. There he has a vision of his father, who explains to him that the magic belt is actually a completely normal belt and that he conquers evil with the good that is in him. Just before he almost marries the local sheriff's daughter, he learns that Dick Lecter is planning to open the first restaurant serving Pootie Tang burgers. He returns to the city to fight evil again. There are now dozens of Pootie look-alikes signed by Lecter Corp to promote the company. But Pootie manages to defeat all doppelgangers and lecters. The latter leaves LecterCorp and becomes an actor. Ireenie, who also turns away from evil, takes care of drug addicted children from now on and Pootie plans his wedding.

criticism

The reviews were mostly negative. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film just 27 positive marks and an average rating of 3.7 / 10. Roger Ebert only gave the film a half star. He criticized the often vulgar sayings. Nathan Rabin at The Onion AV Club said Pootie Tang "borders on public abuse" and "confuses idiocy with absurdity and randomness with wit."

The lexicon of international film said: “Completely underdeveloped comedy that doesn't get off the ground; a short, but seemingly infinitely long film that doesn't meet any demands. "
