Wanda Sykes
Wanda Sykes (born March 7, 1964 in Portsmouth , Virginia ) is an American actress .
Life
Sykes grew up in Maryland and graduated from Hampton University in Hampton , Virginia. She made her debut as a comedian at the Coors Light Super talent Showcase in Washington, DC Later, she appeared in the TV show HBO Comedy Showcase station's Home Box Office on.
From 1997 to 2000 Sykes starred in the television show The Chris Rock Show , in which Chris Rock appeared in the lead role. For this she won the Emmy in 1999 , in 1998, 2000 and 2001 she was nominated for the Emmy Award. In 2001 she received the American Comedy Award .
Sykes starred in the 2003 television series Wanda at Large . For this role, she was nominated in two categories for the Teen Choice Award in 2003 . In 2004 she received a nomination for the Golden Satellite Award and the BET Comedy Award .
In the comedy The Monster-in-Law (2005) Sykes appeared in a bigger role alongside Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda , for which she received the BET Comedy Award in 2005. In the comedy Die Super-Ex (2006) she can be seen alongside Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson .
Sykes was married to record producer Dave Hall from 1991 to 1998, the marriage ended in divorce.
In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
At a demonstration for the recognition of same-sex partnerships in the United States on November 15, 2008 in Las Vegas , she announced that she had married her life partner the previous month in California . Sykes' wife gave birth to twins on April 27, 2009.
