action
Matt Saunders lives in New York City and works in an architecture firm. He is very insecure about women. When trying to speak to an interesting woman on the subway, the handbag is stolen from her. He runs after the thief and can retrieve the purse during the pursuit. The woman, who is initially very dismissive to Matt, is impressed and is then ready to meet with him. The two date a few times and become a couple. He later learns that his nondescript girlfriend Jenny Johnson is leading a second life as a superhero G-Girl .
Jenny came to her superpowers in her teenage years through contact with a meteorite. She discovered the meteorite together with her school friend Bedlam, who is now a professor and is considered a rich villain. The teenagers' friendship fell apart, and Bedlam has since become obsessed with neutralizing G-Girl's superpowers and turning her back to old Jenny Johnson.
If Saunders found the violent emotions of his girlfriend Jenny alias G-Girl interesting, he is more and more intimidated by them and considers her to be pathologically neurotic. In addition, he no longer loves her, but has now fallen in love with his office colleague Hannah. So he breaks up with Jenny. But this is not so easy to dump and uses its superpowers to take revenge. Among other things, she puts his car into orbit the earth, burns an obscene word on his forehead with laser beams from her eyes, throws a shark into his bed and strips Saunders naked in fractions of a second during an important presentation. He then loses his job and wants to leave the city to escape further acts of revenge.
Professor Bedlam and Saunders meet, Bedlam demands that he assist in his plan to neutralize the powers of G-Girl. Saunders refuses at first, but after a slew of harassment and revenge from his ex-girlfriend, he changes his mind. Saunders is supposed to help bring G-Girl into contact with a meteorite that can drain her superpowers. On the pretext of wanting her back, he goes to Jenny and arranges to meet her for dinner at his home. The meteorite is hidden there as an alleged present in a large gift box.
At the alleged reconciliation meeting between the two, everything seems to go as planned for the time being, but Hannah suddenly appears. There is an argument between the two women, during which the meteorite actually deprives Jenny of the superpowers and stores it in itself. This is where Bedlam comes in and reveals that he plans to take over the superpowers himself by touching the meteorite. In the scuffle over it, however, Jenny and Hannah first touch the meteorite charged with Jenny's superpowers and thus both receive superpowers.
A fight ensues between the super-powered women, in the course of which Saunders can calm both of them and Bedlam can coax the admission that he has long been in love with Jenny. In the end, Jenny and Professor Bedlam and Matt and Hannah are together. In the final scene, the two women fly away to prevent a catastrophe while their husbands stay behind with their handbags. During the end credits, you can see that Matt's boyfriend Vaughn just made up the woman riot and bed stories he bragged about every week to Matt: He confesses to his new girlfriend that he has not had sex for over 2 years.
Reviews
Ruthe Stein wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of July 21, 2006 that the film was unable to stand out from the “formalistic stuff from Hollywood”. It doesn't help that Uma Thurman is "perfect" for the role of a female superhero. Some sub-strands of the plot are problematic as they "systematically reduce" the potential of the basic idea. The talents of supporting actors like Eddie Izzard are "wasted".
The lexicon of international films describes the film as a “insidious parody of the superhero myth of relevant comics, which questions the genre-common asexuality of the heroes and leads it to absurdity. The undemanding and entertaining comedy redeems a genre cinema 's debt in a smug way. "
Josh Tyler wrote on CinemaBlend on June 6, 2006 that the film differs from the other superhero films in that this time the main theme is the relationship.
Peter Travers wrote in Rolling Stone magazine in 2006 that Uma Thurman was "hot" in the film, but the comedy was a "thin, stretched" gag. That was only funny for ten minutes.
Daniela Leistikow from Filmstarts.de finds the "men's nightmare of a breakup with apocalyptic proportions mostly very entertaining", albeit sometimes too silly and exaggerated. Overall, "Ivan Reitman's comedy may not be of high cinema art, but definitely recommended for an evening of pure popcorn entertainment".

Uma Thurman and Anna Faris received a nomination at the MTV Movie Awards 2007 for " Best Fight ".
