Teitur Lassen (born January 4, 1977 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands , mostly just Teitur ) is a Faroese songwriter .

Career

Teitur has been making music since he was 13 years old. At first he started with an organ, but quickly picked up the piano and guitar. At the age of 17 he moved to Holstebro in Denmark with his parents . In 1996, the Faroe Islands released the debut album Mark No Limits by the band of the same name with Teitur as lead singer and guitarist. In 1997 this group won the Faroese rock / pop song contest Prix ​​Føroya .

2002 came out with Sólin og Regnið (Sun and Rain) an album in Faroese, in the same year he signed a recording deal with Universal Records and moved to New York for two years . Today he lives in London .

The album Poetry & Airplanes , produced by Rupert Hine in 2003 , was described by international critics as one of the best records of that year. He has been compared to Sting and Paul Simon without copying them. Never before has a Faroese had such international success.

The 2006 album Stay under the Stars was immediately in the Danish and Faroese charts. It was also published in Germany in September. A single from this is Louis Louis - a homage to Louis Armstrong , Teitur's great role model.

On May 14th 2007 the album Káta Hornið came out in the Faroe Islands . It is only designed for Faroese and Icelandic trade and is completely written in the Faroese language. At first it was only intended for the small Faroese market, but demand went way beyond that. Teitur has remained loyal to his homeland and played z. B. on the G! Festival .

On March 3, 2007, Teitur won the Danish Music Awards ("Danish Grammy") in the category of best Danish singer . This is the highest music award an artist can get in Denmark. In 2008 he opened the main stage of the Roskilde Festival . An honor reserved for international stars.

In 2008, The Singer, his third international album, was released. On February 28, 2009 he received his second "Danish Grammy" for it.

In 2016 Teitur was actively involved in the songwriting and production of Judith Holofernes ' second solo album "Ich bin das Chaos", which was released in spring 2017. He was also involved on the accompanying tour as a support artist and as part of Judith Holofernes' band.
