G! festival
The annual G! Festival on Syðrugøta Beach , Faroe Islands is the country's largest open-air music festival alongside Summarfestivalur . The name G! is not derived from the municipality of Gøta , but from an SMS code that was common among members of the earlier band.
The initiator is the former Clickhaze musician Jón Tyril , who is now the festival's music director and press spokesman.
The festival first took place in 2002 and was the first open air festival in the Faroe Islands. With 1,000 visitors, it was considered the most successful music event in the history of the Faroe Islands . In 2005 there were 6,000 visitors and in 2007 between 7,000 and 8,000 (the Faroe Islands have 48,000 inhabitants).
