Darude (2014)

Darude (born July 17, 1975 in Eura , Finland ; actually Ville Virtanen ) is a Finnish DJ .

biography

In 1996 Darude began producing his own songs. When he gave the music producer Jaako Salovaara a demo tape with the track Sandstorm , he was able to sign a contract with the label 16 Inch Records . Sandstorm became a worldwide hit in 2000, reached the top 10 in numerous countries and even made it into the US pop charts (# 86). In the Finnish charts the piece stayed at number 3, but with platinum status and 42 chart weeks - only two songs had been in the charts longer there since 1995 - it was an unusual success.

The successor Feel The Beat was able to build on its success internationally and reached placements around 20 in many countries and number 5 in Great Britain. In Finland it was the first number 1 hit and the following album Before The Storm also reached im same year number 1 among the albums. It took three years until the next album, Rush . It also only reached number 4 in Finland, but it had two number 1 hits : Music and Next To You . Internationally, however, there was little interest in the Finn and his music. In 2007 Darude returned with the title Tell Me and had his fourth number 1 hit in his homeland. The album Moments was released in 2015 and entered the Finnish album charts at number 31.

On January 29, 2019 it was announced that he would represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv together with the singer Sebastian Rejman . The song Look Away of the two was determined by the preliminary decision Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2019 . After taking part in the first semi-final, the duo landed in last place and thus missed the finals of the competition.

Internet phenomenon Darude - Sandstorm

By 2013 at the latest, the title Sandstorm became a viral video after the song was broadcast as background music in live streams . Many viewers asked for the name of the title, which was then answered with Darude - Sandstorm . Since then, this phrase has been known as a meme . As of April Fool's Day 2015, YouTube would show the message Did you mean Darude - Sandstorm every time it searched for music , regardless of whether it was actually that song. Internet users answer questions about an unknown background song in YouTube videos in the comments with this song as well. In 2014 alone, the number of clicks on the video more than doubled.
