Marion Rung (born December 7, 1945 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish pop singer . In 1962 and 1973 she represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest .

Live and act

Since the release of her first single Brigitte Bardot / Mexico in 1961, she has been one of the most successful singers in the country. In 1962 she won the Finnish qualification for the Grand Prix Eurovision with the title Tipi-tii and competed for Finland on March 18 at the 1962 Eurovision Song Contest in Luxembourg . It came in seventh, the best place for a Finnish entry to date. In 1973 she entered the competition again with the title Tom Tom Tom presented in English . This time she took sixth place. For Finland, which has long been the most unsuccessful country in the history of the Grand Prix, this was the best ranking until the victory of the hard rock band Lordi in 2006. Tom Tom Tom also reached number one in the Finnish singles charts .

In 1980 she even achieved first place at the 4th Intervision song competition in Sopot, Poland with the title Where Is the Love .

In Finland she has been successful since her first recordings both with her own compositions and with Finnish interpretations of English and American titles such as Lady Sunshine and Mr. Moon or My Boy Lollipop . In the 1970s, Rung also recorded a few singles in German, of which El Bimbo was arguably the most successful. She also sang in Swedish, English, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish. In 1972 Rung, who came from a Jewish family, appeared with the show program Shalom , in which she performed traditional Jewish songs such as Hava Nagila .

She continued to appear on Finnish television in the 1970s and 1980s, even if chart successes waned. A great stage success was the Leidit lavalla tour, which took place in 2000 with the three other great stars of the Finnish hit: Katri Helena , Paula Koivuniemi and Lea Laven . The following year she celebrated her 40th stage anniversary with a tour of the Finnish dance temples ( tanssilavat ).

On the occasion of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, the Finnish Post issued a sheet of four stamps on May 9, 2007. Marion Rung is shown on a stamp.
