Paula Kristiina Koivuniemi (formerly Lehti, born June 19, 1947 in Seinäjoki ) is a Finnish pop singer .

Life

Paula Koivuniemi was interested in music from an early age. Her father Mauri Koivuniemi was a dance musician and Paula often accompanied him to concerts.

1960s to 1990s

Her career began in the 1960s when record producer Toivo Kärki released her Tango Perhonen (1966). The song became a success, as did the later productions Jos helmiä kyyneleet ois (1968), Aigeianmeren laulu (1970) and Jos konduktöörin nait (1972). Paula Koivuniemi's career did not progress in the 1970s. She sang bubblegum and soul , but neither song was successful. It was only at the end of the decade, with the help of record producer Jori Sivonen , that she found her own style and had two big hits with Kapteeni Aika and Sua vasten aina painautuisin (1978).

In the early 1980s, Paula Koivuniemi came into contact with the producer Esa Nieminen, with whom she worked for decades. The album Vie minut pois , released in 1980, sold around 70,000 copies, which earned her a double platinum record . Tummat silmät ruskea tukka and Romantiikkaa also became hits. In 1982 the album Luotan sydämen ääneen was released . In the 1980s, Paula Koivunimi received a total of nine gold records. In 1987 she won the Emma Prize for best female singer of the year.

In the 1990s Paula Koivuniemi sang many cover versions of international hits, but also many of her own, often melancholy songs. Over time she sang more and more of her own songs, such as Se kesäni mun , Ruusuja ja shampanjaa ja Kun kuuntelen Tomppaa . The 1991 album Täyttä elämää contained six foreign and six own songs, the three years later Se kesäni mun released only one cover (of twelve songs). Later albums consist almost entirely of Finnish songs.

In 1996 Paula Koivuniemi received the Emma Special Award.

2000s

The 2000s started with the Leidit Lavalla project. Paula Koivuniemi played 16 concerts with Katri Helena , Marion Rung and Lea Laven, which reached an audience of 80,000 people. The accompanying album Leidit Levyllä sold over 20,000 copies and became a "Golden Record". In 2003 the album "Rakastunut" (again with Esa Nieminen) was released, in 2006 Yöperhonen (again gold record) - the song Kuka pelkää Paulaa from this album became a permanent hit and is desired by the audience at every concert to this day. In 2007 Timantti appeared for the Paula Koivuniemi again received a gold record. The album Nainen , released in May 2009, reached 6th place in the Finnish charts shortly after its release .

In the same year she also played concerts with Jorma Kääriäinen, Kari Tapio and the Riku Niemi Orchestra. In 2009 she sang at many important festivals such as the RMJ Party Camp in Rauma .

In 2006 she received the Iskelmä Finlandia Prize, and in 2002 the Anna Liisa Prize, which was awarded to a female singer for the first time .

2010s

On April 7, 2010 the album Rakkaudesta was released , which reached the 3rd place in the charts and by the end of May also the gold status. In March 2011 Koivuniemi left her previous record company AXR Music and switched to Warner Music Finland. In the fall she started working on the next album, which was released in May of the following year. The album Matka contains some pop songs and ballads, the first single Queen was released on March 19, 2012.
