Provincial skirt
Provinssirock is an annual music festival in Seinäjoki , Finland , which mainly features rock music . Together with Ruisrock , Ilosaarirock , Flow Festival and Jurassic Rock, it is one of the "Big Five" of Finnish music festivals.
history
The festival was founded in 1979, making it one of the oldest in the Nordic countries . In the first year it was a one-day event with around 4,500 visitors listening to music groups such as the Son Seals Blues Band , Eppu Normaali and Tuomari Nurmio & Köyhien ystävät . Since then, the Provinssirock has taken place every year in mid-June one week before Juhannus on a river island in Törnävä, a district about four kilometers south of the center of Seinäjoki. It originally opened the Finnish festival summer until Sauna Open Air was founded in Tampere in 2004.
The Provinssirock was expanded into a two-day festival in the 1980s, which had around 35,000 to 40,000 visitors from 1986 to 1988. In the early 1990s, when Finland fell into recession , the numbers fell sharply (e.g. 13,000 visitors in 1993), which led to a financial crisis for the organizers. The original organizer Kemu ry was replaced in 1992 by the successor company Selmu ry . From the mid-1990s, things picked up again, after which the event finally became three days. From 2005 the festival regularly had more visitors than the city that hosted it. The current visitor record is 81,000 in 2011.
In 2013, around 60 bands played on five stages during the three days. Two of these stages are in tents, the other three outdoors. In addition, entertainers are distributed on the site who perform circus tricks, pantomime , small plays, etc.
Headliners in 2010 were Rammstein , 30 Seconds to Mars and Cypress Hill ; In 2011 it was System of a Down , Avenged Sevenfold and Pendulum and in 2012 it was Billy Talent , Justice , Slayer and Snow Patrol . In addition to larger rock and metal bands , the Provinssirock also offers smaller bands from various other music genres such as electro , hip-hop and pop .
