Pendulum ( English for pendulum ) is an Australian-British drum and bass band, which at the time of its dissolution consisted of Rob Swire , Gareth McGrillen, Paul Harding, Peredur Ap Gwynedd and Kevin Sawka. In addition to DJ sets and keyboards , Pendulum also use traditional rock band instruments such as drums , electric guitar and electric bass .

history

The band was founded in Australia in 2002 . In 2003 the band moved to London .

The release of their debut single "Vault" on the Kingz Of The Rollers Vol. 3 -EP was very well received in the drum and bass scene. The introductory melancholic melody and the hard drop represented an unusual contrast at this time. The production quality ( mastering , intensity of the bass , clarity of samples and sound) of the single was already at a professional level. Through this publication, the well-known DnB artist Andy C became aware of Pendulum.

After further single releases the band followed in 2005 the first album Hold Your Color on the drum and bass label Breakbeat Kaos . Four tracks on the album reached positions in the UK Top 100 charts .

In May 2008 Pendulum released their second album In Silico and reached number 2 on the UK album charts. The first single Propane Nightmares was released in April and reached number 9 in the UK Singles Chart in early May .

In May 2010 her third studio album Immersion was released , which climbed from zero to one in the British album charts. Immersion contains 15 songs, some of which were performed by other artists such as In Flames (in the song "Self vs. Self") and Liam Howlett from The Prodigy (in the song "Immunize"). The song The Fountain features multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and guitarist of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree , Steven Wilson .

In 2011, the single Ransom was published on the official Pendulum website, the proceeds of which went to the victims of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake . The single originated from the times of immersion recordings, but was not released on the album.

In the same year Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen formed the band Knife Party . Shortly after the band's second EP, Rage Valley , was released in June 2012, Swire declared the end of the Australian-British drum 'n' bass band Pendulum in an interview with the Australian radio station Triple J. The reasons for this step include his new project and the mood in the ranks of the band. “The [Knife Party] project is just too much fun for us. With Pendulum, in the end we had the feeling that we only do it because we have to. So you don't enjoy the music. "

The Pendulum members Paul Harding and Ben Mount declared, however, to continue to make music under the name Pendulum DJ set and to continue to tour, but without a live band.

In August 2013 Rob Swire announced on Twitter that Pendulum would probably release a new album in 2014, but this was denied in December 2014.

In December 2015, the band officially announced that they would play at the 2016 Ultra Music Festival in Miami. On March 20, 2016, Pendulum performed as the final act at the festival after Rob Swire's project Knife Party. This was the first live performance of the entire band since they split up in 2012.

For June 29, 2018, the band has announced a new album entitled The Reworks , which contains well-known songs as remixes by artists such as Noisia , Skrillex and Moby .
