Óscar Eduardo Córdoba Arce (born March 2, 1970 in Cali ) is a former Colombian football player.

Career

society

Córdoba began his professional career in 1988 with the Colombian club Atlético Nacional . After just one season, he decided to move and joined Deportivo Cali . For the following season, the club officials decided to loan the young goalkeeper to Deportes Quindio . However, there was no return and Córdoba signed with CD Los Millonarios for the next two years . Then Once Caldas secured the services of the young star at the time. But in the same year, 1993, Córdoba decided to move within the league to América de Cali . The player stayed there for four years before moving to the traditional club Boca Juniors in Argentina . In 1998 he won the Argentine first round championship with his new club and the second half of the year. Probably the greatest success he secured himself with the team in 2000 and 2001, when the Copa Libertadores were won twice in a row . Added to this is the triumph of the World Cup in 2000. Due to good performance at the club, Córdoba earned itself on the notes of the scouts of European clubs. So it came in the winter of 2001/02 to switch to the Italian club Perugia Calcio . Although he was a regular goalkeeper, he turned his back on the club after half a year and moved on to Turkey . At Besiktas Istanbul he completed 4 successful years. In the 2002/03 season he was with Besiktas Istanbul Turkish champions , where he conceded only 17 goals in 34 games. In 2003, Óscar Córdoba reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA CUP with Besiktas. In 2006, his contract was not extended and he moved to the newly promoted Antalyaspor on a free transfer, where he announced his resignation after the end of the season in summer 2007.

But a short time later there was a comeback in his home country for Deportivio Cali. After disputes with the board, Córdoba threatened to move back to Argentina or Turkey, to resign or to transfer within the league. He finally signed CD Los Millonarios for 2008 with his former employer.

On January 1, 2010, he ended his active career.

National team

The goalkeeper played at the 1994 World Cup in the USA and the 1998 World Cup in France.

Córdoba made his debut on March 31, 1993 against the national soccer team of Costa Rica . On September 10, 2003, he overtook René Higuitas record of 68 appearances and thereby became the Colombian goalkeeper with the most games for his country. Shortly afterwards, in November, he played his last international match against Argentina . A catastrophic bad pass in the legs of Hernán Crespo and the associated 1-0 for Argentina (final result: 1: 1) ended his international career. Until 2006 he was still a substitute goalkeeper, but was no longer used.
