The Millonarios Fútbol Club , known as Club Deportivo Los Millonarios until April 2011 , is a Colombian football club from Bogotá .

The club colors are blue and white. The games against Santa Fe are considered Clásico bogotano and are a highlight in the Colombian football calendar.

history

The club, founded in its current form on June 18, 1946, emerged from the football club Deportivo Municipal , which was founded in 1937 . The club had its most successful period in the early 1950s with players like Alfredo Di Stéfano . In December 1951, the "blue ballet" was the first Colombian club to win against an Argentine team (3-1 against Racing Club Avellaneda ). In March 1952 Real Madrid were defeated 4-2 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu . It was the first victory of a Colombian team in Europe. In the following years Millonarios completed more games in Europe and was therefore nicknamed "Los Embajadores" ("The Ambassadors").

In 1949 CD Los Millonarios won the first Colombian championship title. Twelve other championships and two cup wins followed (1953, 1963). From May to November 1999, the team remained unbeaten in 29 games. The club participated in all four tournaments for the Copa Merconorte . After failing at Atlético Nacional in the final in 2000 , Millonarios won the title in 2001.

The association has been in financial difficulties for several years. The economic problems also led to a lack of sporting success. In April 2011, the club was renamed Millonarios Fútbol Club . In October of that year, the Millonarios won the two finals of the cup competition against Boyacá Chicó FC 1-0 each, winning their first title in more than 20 years.

In the back series 2012 Millonarios was able to win his first championship title since 1988. Millonarios won the 15th championship title in the 2017 final.

Stadion
