Boyacá Chicó Fútbol Club , formerly known as Chicó FC for short , is a Colombian football club from Tunja . The origins go back to 1997, but in its current form the club was founded in 2002 as Deportivo Bogotá Chicó FC in the capital Bogotá and was named after the district in which it was based. After being promoted to the first division in 2003, the club's management relocated both their headquarters and the sports facilities to the local capital Tunja in 2004 at the invitation of the government of the Departamento de Boyacá and has been called the Boyacá Chicó Fútbol Club since then .

history

The club played for the first time in 2004 in the Colombian first division . Together with the La Equidad team, Boyacá Chicó is the only team that has been promoted from third to first division in Colombian football and the only club that has achieved this with third and second division championships.

The club's greatest success so far was taking part in the Copa Libertadores 2008 and 2009 and winning the championship title in the Apertura 2008.

In 2011 the club reached the final of the Copa Colombia , but lost it to Millonarios .

In the 2016 season, Boyacá Chicó suffered the first relegation in the club's history, after thirteen years in the first division. In September 2016, the club had signed Nelson Olveira, a new coach, who should prevent relegation.

The 2017 Apertura, the first half series in the second division, went well for Boyacá Chicó after a difficult start to the season and a change of coach ( Jhon Gómez replaced Olveira). The league phase was finished in fifth place. In the final round, the club was able to prevail against Llaneros FC , Cúcuta Deportivo and Real Santander and thus won the Apertura, which Boyacá Chicó qualified for the promotion games at the end of the season. In the Finalización Boyacá Chicó just missed the ninth place in the final round. In the subsequent final of the two semi-series champions, however, the club was able to prevail against Leones FC , became champions and rose straight back to the top division.

The first half series in the first division, the Apertura 2018 , finished Boyacá Chicó in penultimate place. In the back series, the club finished 14th. Due to the penultimate place in the relegation table, Boyacá Chicó rose directly back to the second division after just one year.

In Apertura 2019 Boyacá Chicó moved into the final round in fifth place and finished second in Group B just behind Deportivo Pereira and missed the finals of the semi-series championship.

Stadion

Boyacá Chicó plays his home games at the Estadio La Independencia . The stadium was re-inaugurated in 2000 after major renovations and expanded in 2009 and now has a capacity of around 25,000 seats.
