history

Foundation of the club, first relegation and re-promotion

Deportivo Pereira was founded in 1944 and united the two most successful football teams in the city, Vidriocul and Otún . The club took part in the professional first division of Colombia for the first time in 1949 , when the competition was held for the second time. The best placement reached Deportivo Pereira in the seasons 1952 , 1962 , 1966 and 1974 , in each of which the third place was achieved. The club experienced its first descent in 1996/97 .

From 1998 to 2000 the club was in the second division until it was promoted again under coach Walter Fernando Aristizábal .

Second relegation and years in the second division

In the 2011 season , the second relegation from the first division took place. After relegation, the club was initially only able to qualify for the final round in the Torneo Finalización 2012 , but without reaching the final. In the other seasons until 2014 he did not manage to finish the league phase among the top eight teams. In the Torneo Apertura 2014 , the club even found itself in the table cellar and came second to last. In the back series, Pereira showed a great improvement, finished second in the league phase and just barely missed the final in the group phase. Even in the special promotion round for traditional clubs of the second division in January 2015, the club could not be promoted.

In the 2015 season , Deportivo Pereira was close to promotion and played a strong season. In the final round, however, the club had to admit defeat in its group Fortaleza FC . Pereira also played a strong league phase in the 2016 season and finished in first place. In the final round, however, the performance dropped a little, so that the promotion was just missed. In the last game of the group stage, the club conceded the equalizer from Leones FC to 2-2 in the last minutes , so that Tigres FC rose instead . Deportivo Pereira was also able to dominate the league phase of the season 2017 , but then retired in the quarter-finals. In the back series too, Pereira was strong in the league phase and finished in second place. As in the first series, the club was eliminated in the subsequent quarter-finals.

For the 2018 season , Deportivo Pereira signed José Fernando Santa as head coach. Pereira finished the league phase in third place, but failed in the subsequent final round to make it into the final.

In December 2018, Néstor Craviotto was signed as coach for the 2019 season . Deportivo Pereira was able to qualify as third in the league phase for the final round and then won Group B and reached the final, which could be won against Cortuluá . Thus, the club qualified as semi-series champion for the final of the all-year championship and promotion.

Stadion

Deportivo Pereira played its home games in the Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas, which was built and opened in 1971 . The venue has a capacity of 38,500 seats. The stadium was also one of the venues for the 2001 Copa America and the 2011 U-20 World Cup . Until 1971, the Estadio Alberto Mora Mora was the club's home stadium.
