The Categoría Primera B 2012 , named after a sponsor Torneo Postobón , was the twenty-third season of the second Colombian division in men's football , which consisted of Apertura and Finalización . It started on January 28, 2012 and ended on December 1. Last year's champion was Deportivo Pasto . Relegated from the first division were Deportivo Pereira and América de Cali .

Champion was Alianza Petrolera , which was able to rise to the first division. The runner-up América de Cali lost in the relegation against Cúcuta Deportivo .

mode

Two tournaments were played, the Apertura and the Finalización . Initially, all 18 teams played against each other in league mode, in addition there was a game day with Clásicos , on which games with a derby character are played. The first eight teams qualified for the semi-final groups, in which two finalists were played in two groups of four teams each, who determined the semi-series champions.

The two semi-series champions played a master who rose directly. The runner-up played a relegation against the penultimate in the first division. If a team had won both half-series, they would automatically have become champions. The next best team in the overall table would have played the relegation. There was no relegation from the second division.

Attendees

The following clubs took part in the two half-series of the 2012 season, Apertura and Finalización . After Centauros Villavicencio's move to Popayán during the previous season, the club now played under the new name Universitario Popayán . The association Pacífico FC moved to Sincelejo and became in Sucre FC renamed. Academia FC only played the first series, for the second series the right to start was sold to Llaneros FC from Villavicencio. Alianza Petrolera was supported by the first division club Atlético Nacional and moved to Guarne during the season, where the administrative headquarters of Atlético Nacional are also located. A change of name to Alianza Oriente was discussed but not implemented.

1Alianza Petrolera initially played in their own stadium in Barrancabermeja. Because of renovation work, the club then played its home games first in Bucaramanga and then in Guarne, where the headquarters of Atlético Nacional are located, whose financial support Alianza Petrolera received in 2011.
2 Academia FC only took part in the Apertura.
3 Llaneros FC only took part in the Finalización.
4th Barranquilla FC played their home games for a month at Junior's stadium, the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez.
