José Izquierdo (born July 7, 1992 in Pereira ) is a Colombian football player .

Career

society

Izquierdo started his career at Deportivo Pereira . In April 2010 he made his debut in the Categoría Primera A when he came on as a substitute for León Darío Muñoz on the eleventh match day of Apertura 2010 against Envigado FC in the 60th minute . In September 2010 he scored his first goal in the top Colombian division in a 1-1 draw against Envigado. In the 2010 season he came to nine missions in which he scored one goal.

In the 2011 season he completed 21 games for Pereira in the Categoría Primera A and scored one goal. At the end of the season, however, he had to relegate to the Primera B category with the club . In the 2012 season he came to 24 appearances in the second-highest division, in which he scored ten goals. After 15 appearances in the 2013 season, he moved to the first division club Once Caldas in July 2013 . By the end of the 2013 season he came to 16 appearances for Once Caldas in the Categoría Primera A, in which he scored three goals.

After 24 appearances in the 2014 season, in which he scored nine goals, Izquierdo moved to Belgium in August 2014 for Club Bruges , where he was given a contract that ran until June 2018. He played his first game in the Pro League in September 2014 against KRC Genk . In the same month he scored his first goal in the Belgian top division in a 5-0 win against KV Kortrijk . In his first season with Bruges, he played 32 Pro League games, in which he scored three goals. That season he won the cup with the club . In the 2015/16 season he was champion with Bruges, in that season he came to 24 appearances in which he scored seven goals.

The championship title also qualified for the UEFA Champions League , in which Izquierdo made four appearances in the group stage and, with Bruges, was eliminated from Group G without any points. In a 2-1 loss to Leicester City , he also scored one of the Belgians' two goals in the Champions League. In the league he came to 28 appearances in which he scored 14 goals. With Bruges he could not defend the championship title and became runner-up.

In August 2017 he moved to England for Brighton & Hove Albion and became the most expensive player in the club's history. He played his first game in the Premier League in the same month against Watford FC . He scored his first goal in the English top division in October 2017 in a 3-0 win over West Ham United . In his first season in England he came to 32 league appearances in which he scored five goals. In the 2018/19 season he made 15 appearances and remained without a goal. On May 1, 2019, he suffered a serious knee injury and was therefore out for the entire next season.

National team

Izquierdo made his debut for the Colombian national team in a friendly against Spain in June 2017 . He scored his first goal for the team in a 4-0 win against Cameroon on June 13, 2017.

He was part of the Colombian squad at the 2018 World Cup in Brazil . He came to a use in the group stage against Japan, the team was eliminated in the round of 16 against England on penalties.
