Neal Maupay (born August 14, 1996 in Versailles ) is a French football player with Argentinian roots. He is currently under contract with the English first division club Brighton & Hove Albion .

Career

society

Neal Maupay played in his childhood from 2002 to 2007 with the lower class US Valbonne before he moved to the youth department of the French professional club OGC Nice . Just a few days after his 16th birthday, he was used for the first time for the club's fifth-class second team. On September 15, 2012, he made his Ligue 1 debut. At the age of 16 years and 32 days, he became the third-youngest player in league history. Three months later he scored his first professional goal on matchday 18 against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard with the 3-2 winner in stoppage time, making him the second youngest shooter in the competition. Maupay played 19 games in all competitions for Nice's first team in 2012/13 before tearing a cruciate ligament in April 2013.

After a six-month injury break, he made his comeback for the second team from Nice on November 23 and was back on the pitch with the pros from January 2014. He completed 16 games in Ligue 1 during the second half of the season, in which he scored two goals. In the 2014/15 season he played 13 league games (one goal).

In August 2015, Maupay signed a four-year contract with league rivals AS Saint-Étienne , for which he made his debut on August 23, 2015 in the league game against FC Lorient . He scored his first goal on January 3rd in the cup game against Raon L'Etape. He spent the 2016/17 season on loan from the second division side Stade Brest .

In July 2017, Maupay moved to the English second division club Brentford , the transfer fee is said to have been £ 1.6 million, according to press information. Two years later he moved on to the Premier League at Brighton & Hove Albion for now, according to press reports, 16 million pounds.

National team

Maupay has played in French youth teams so far, but is also an Argentinian citizen. For the U-16s, he played 13 games from 2011 to 2012, in which he scored six goals. From 2012 to 2013 he was a member of the U-17 squad and scored four times in eight games. At the European Championship qualification , he ran for the U-21 for the first time as a 17-year-old in March 2014. He also took part with France in the U19 European Championship in summer 2015, where he was used in two games and provided one assist. France failed without Maupay in the semi-finals against eventual winners Spain.

Style of play

Maupay, who is considered to be one of the greatest young hopes in France, is particularly convincing due to its dangerousness to scoring and its tricky and fast-paced game. The 1.73 meter tall striker has weaknesses in processing high balls.
